At AstraZeneca in Gothenburg, Sweden we have an exciting opportunity for you to join us in the Stem & Primary Cell Team in Discovery Sciences, Biopharmaceuticals R&D, as a bench-based Senior Research Scientist - Cell therapy to be a key player in developing cellular therapeutics to change patients' lives.
Biopharmaceuticals R&D is now building a new cell therapy department with the goal to establish AstraZeneca as a world-leader in the stem cell field and to build a competitive pipeline within cell therapy across our disease areas. In this role you will have the opportunity to work with this cutting edge field in a team of skilled stem cell scientists, alongside disease areas specialists, to develop cell models for cell therapy. Working here means accelerating innovative science, being ambitious, and working together to make the impossible a reality. Together we will push the boundaries of science!
What you will do:
As a Senior Research Scientist you'll take a lead scientific role in applying your skills to generate, validate, and characterize cellular models to progress cell therapy projects. The role is focused on laboratory-based activities and you will directly impact cell therapy projects by utilizing your expertise in cellular model generation through genome engineering and stem cell differentiation.
In the daily work you will generate work-plans to agreed timelines to meet project objectives, including delivery of more than one agreed area of work in parallel. You will be responsible for designing and executing experiments to generate high quality and relevant data as well as delivering and presenting data and proposing next steps in support of cell therapy projects.
Other accountabilities include:
* Independently assess and report data to support project decisions and breakthroughs.
* Keep up-to-date with relevant scientific literature and technology platforms as well as writing and publishing scientific papers.
* Ensure that your work is compliant to a high quality and follow Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) standards in accordance with other relevant internal and external standards and regulations.
* Communicate and share relevant information between distinct projects within the department as well as across other functions.
Essentials for the role:
* PhD in Developmental Biology, Cell Biology or a related field or a BSc/MSc degree with significant experience
* Expertise with stem cell culture and advanced cellular models
* Expertise in genome engineering from demonstrable design and tool generation through to validation and functional characterization (endogenous gene-tagging, gene expression knock-down, transfection methods)
In addition to the above you should be able to work independently, take own initiatives and have a positive and result oriented attitude. Along with this we see you as a person who enjoys collaboration and partnership, who interacts reliably across interfaces of fields, culture and expertise. English is required, both spoken and written, and it is also essential to have great communication and organizational skills.
Desirable for the role:
* Experience in Cell Therapy
* Good scientific presentation skills and ability to comfortably present and discuss scientific data. Preferable a good publication records in peer-reviewed journals demonstrating expertise
* Experience in cellular analysis platforms like flow cytometry or cellular imaging
