At AstraZeneca in Gothenburg - Sweden, we are looking for a Senior Research Scientist to join our Biophysics team as part of the Structure, Biophysics & Fragments department.

The Structure, Biophysics & Fragments department is working within Discovery Sciences (DS) - meaning you will play a part in providing high quality hits, leads and drug candidates to AstraZeneca project teams. Discovery Sciences is a multi-faced department that validate and integrate targets from genomics research and drives early drug discovery across AstraZeneca's global Research and Development portfolio. The role
To be successful in the position as Senior Research Scientist within Biophysics we see that you have good social and communication skills, is collaborative and a strong team player. You should also be able to work independently and have a positive, goal oriented and problem-solving attitude. Excellent English is required, both spoken and written, and good organizational skills are of use.

What you will do in this role?

* Predominantly laboratory-based position supporting hit validation, affinity-based screening and biophysical characterization of compound interaction with drug targets.
* Design and execute biophysical studies to understand the molecular mode of action of compounds.
* Method development, implementation and continuous improvement of biophysical screening, validation and/or characterization methods.
* Analysis, interpretation and presentation of data to cross functional teams.
* Explore new technology and/or approaches to improve existing workflows and to generate novel types of structure-activity relationships.
* Represent the biophysical function at project interfaces to support project initiation, lead generation activities, medicinal chemistry design and candidate drug selection.


Essential for the role:

* PhD in biochemistry or biophysics (or equivalent education) with a strong understanding of protein chemistry and demonstrated experience working both independently and collaboratively in a laboratory environment
* Deep understanding of the characterization of protein-ligand interactions by biophysical methods.
* Familiarity in the application of biophysical methods for primary fragment screening, hit validation or mechanistic studies of protein-ligand interactions.
* Strong working knowledge of MS and/or other biophysical techniques such as SPR, ITC, NMR and TSA.
* Experience in performing assay development, validation and execution (including data analysis).
* Excellent track record of publications and/or conference presentations


Desirable for the role:

* Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively in a cross-disciplinary/cross functional setting
* Skilled in managing multiple projects with clear understanding of project needs to ensure delivery of high-quality data with clear communication of timelines
* Familiarity with structural MS (HDX-MS and Native-MS)
* Familiarity with general laboratory automation (including liquid handlers) and LIMS/information technologies is desirable
