AstraZeneca R&D, Gothenburg, Sweden seek to recruit a Senior Research Scientist, Physical & Analytical Chemistry, responsible for analytical research in the Therapeutic Area Respiratory, Inflammation & Autoimmunity (RIA).

Medicinal Chemistry in RIA is focused on the delivery of both Small Molecules and New Modalities clinical candidates. The Physical & Analytical Chemistry team is crucial for achieving this - working in close collaboration with Medicinal Chemistry, Drug Design, DMPK and Pharmaceutical Science departments and with a strong research focus. We jointly aim at the discovery of the respiratory medicines of the future.

We are now looking for a new colleague who has a strong scientific background in Analytical Chemistry, a passion for analytical research combined with scientific curiosity for small and large synthetic molecules. Main Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate has a background in Analytical Chemistry combined with a solid expertise in either MS and/or NMR spectroscopy. The candidate is expected to support RIA 's portfolio projects and to develop the science around SM and New Modalities analytics to be fit for future purpose. He/she provides expert advice in the characterization of SMs and NMs and collaborates effectively with Medicinal Chemists and DMPK colleagues.



Major Duties

* Optimal support of RIA 's drug discovery portfolio by application of either MS or NMR methods - depending on the candidate 's scientific background
* Characterization of both SMs and New Modalities such as peptides and oligonucleotides
* Effective collaboration with Medicinal and Computational Chemists, as well as Pharmaceutical Science colleagues
* Driving internal science in the field of Analytical Chemistry
* Contribution to internal and external visibility through publications, posters, oral conference presentations and participation in local/global AZ workstreams



Essential Requirements

* PhD in Analytical Chemistry or related scientific discipline
* Expert in MS and/or NMR spectroscopy
* Demonstrated expertise in peptide or oligonucleotide MS (e.g. sequencing of peptides and oligonucleotides using CID, ETD and MALDI) or NMR is a significant plus
* In-depth, hands-on expertise and up-to-date knowledge of analytical methods
* Understanding of separation techniques such as RP-UPLC, SFC, IEX and SEC is a plus
* Strong scientific track record
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills
