The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology conducts research and offers education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Research, the predominant activity, is often done in collaboration with corporate and international partners. We are one of the university's largest, oldest and most well known departments, encompassing five interacting scientific fields: biology, chemistry, material physics, applied physics and theory and modelling.

We are looking for a Senior Research Engineer in the field of Sensors and Sensor Systems within the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Your future work assignments
Your tasks as a senior research engineer include hardware and software research and development for a portable gas sensor system to be used for indoor air quality applications. The work assignments include intensive laboratory work and experimental activities. You will work as a researcher and be responsible for both hardware and software development, design and execution of experiments, characterization of sensors, data analysis and evaluation, and sensor system integration. You will be responsible for laboratory tests as well as for field test measurements. Your work assignments will focus on, but may not be limited to, all research activities and related tasks concerning the H2020-NMBP-ST-IND-2018 EU-project SensMat "Preventive Solutions for Sensitive Materials of Cultural Heritage". Knowledge and experience in both applied physics and engineering are a merit.

Your future workplace
You will work within the group Applied Sensor Science, which is a research unit of Sensor and Actuator Systems division. You will be part of an international team within a highly international work environment. The working language will be English.

Your qualifications
To be qualified for this position, we are looking for someone who has:

• Doctoral degree or equivalent in physics, chemistry, engineering or similar fields
• Three or more years of experience in lab work and participation in research projects, preferably in the sensors, sensor system integration and indoor air quality domains
• Good organizational and problem solving skills (planning, scheduling, managing resources, meeting deadlines)
• Good communication skills
• Good knowledge in English both verbally and in writing
• Experience in writing scientific papers and technical reports with a particular focus on EU funded projects such as the FP7 or H2020 framework programmes
• Aptitude for teamwork with organizational independence

Form of employment
Full time position for 12 months.

Starting date
As soon as possible, by agreement.
