We are recruiting a senior research engineer to work in various projects we have in Applied Geophysics and Ore geology groups related to data collection, data archiving, handling rock samples and participating in field campaigns. Applied geophysics is a subject based on the laws and methods of physics, which in combination with geological information can be used to locate natural resources such as mineral deposits, hydrocarbon and water. Ore Geology includes the use, setting and mode of formation of naturally occurring economic concentrations of metallic raw materials.
The focus of research is on the development of geophysical methods for exploration of mineral deposits. The research aims at describing the geological conditions that lead to economic concentrations of minerals, as well as how these minerals can be used for a sustainable societal development.
Duties
The position responsibilities include both field work (to collect new data) and helping to process and organize the data. In the field you will help to acquire geophysical data and rock samples as well as organize core archive in the lab. Petrophysical measurements will also be part your duties. In addition, you will have the opportunity to develop your pedagogical skills in teaching basic classes and helping with practical lab training. As a researcher, you work as a neutral party in many contexts, which provides a great opportunity to be involved in challenging development projects.
Qualifications
You require to have higher education diploma from university in geology, geophysics or related sciences. Experience with lab measurements and handling rock samples is required. Knowledge of geostatistics and experience in the field are advantages. You are expected to work in a team and are open to collaborate with colleagues and external partners. Good knowledge of English is required.
Further information
Employment is for 1 year. Research assistance in the projects (50%) and other department duties (50%) are included. Position starts September 1st 2023
