About the position
The position is within the Radio Network Technology (RNT) Research group (currently 10 people). RNT has a proven track record of innovation in RRM and SON (Self-Organising Networks) research, both for standardization and product development, over a ten year period. Currently we work on LTE and 5G radio access networks. We wish to strengthen our new team in 5G research, and require motivated individuals with a track record of leading-edge research in communications technologies. More senior individuals would be expected to lead work packages / projects and mentor more junior members.
Responsibilities
• To undertake innovative research in future radio access networks that could be deployed in 2020, for example, using field trials or simulators.
• Research activities shall be closely coordinated with parallel research elsewhere in Huawei, for example, in Shanghai and Ottawa.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry and academic trends.
• Publish research and protect ideas.
Required background and experience:
• Telecommunications research, ideally in wireless communications.
• Access network modeling & system simulation e.g. in Matlab.
• M.Sc and min 6 years relevant academic or industrial experience.
Desired additional experience:
• Radio propagation and network planning.
• Mobility procedures in the UE and in the network, L1, L2, UMTS or LTE.
• Development of RRM and/or Self-X algorithms and solutions.
• Knowledge of energy saving methods in ICT.
• Knowledge of LTE/LTE-A features such as carrier aggregation, HetNet, MIMO.
• Proven innovative skills. Ability to go beyond state-of-the-art.
• Prior experience in joint collaborative research projects (e.g. EU FP7).

This is a permanent position at our R&D office in Kista, Stockholm.
