The WACQT Research Arena - Quantum Computing (WARA-QC) is looking for a Senior Quantum Computing Application Engineer to spearhead industry collaboration projects with the aim to bring quantum computing out of the lab and apply it to real world problems.
In this role, you will lead interactions with industry partners through joint projects, work on relevant problems in close collaboration with subject matter experts from industry. You will be involved in the entire development chain, from problem identification to learning outcomes.
These projects aim to lower the barriers for Swedish industry to engage with quantum computing technologies and accelerate the development of real-world quantum computing applications.
Your responsibilities will include:
Project management: Shape and lead projects together with stakeholders from industry.
Assessing opportunities: Evaluate where and how quantum computing can provide value and determine project suitability for quantum approaches.
Project formulation: Take lead in defining project goals, deliverables, and success criteria in collaboration with partners.
Problem transformation: Lead the conversion of industrial problems into quantum-amenable forms.
Algorithm development: Design, implement, and execute quantum algorithms on world-leading hardware and simulators.
Performance evaluation: Conduct classical high-performance computing benchmarks to validate quantum solutions.
Communication: Report results to expert and non-expert stakeholders.
Mentoring: Guide and lead junior staff members.
Why Join Us?
This is an opportunity to work at the very cutting edge of technology, to collaborate with excellent researchers, mentor junior staff, expand your professional network across multiple sectors, and enjoy opportunities for continuous learning and skill development.
Qualifications
PhD in a relevant field (e.g., Quantum Computing, Quantum Information, Physics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics), or equivalent work experience with demonstrated research in quantum algorithms
Proven track record of delivering applied research or prototypes with measurable impact, ideally in collaboration with industry.
Demonstrated experience with quantum computing, algorithms, or simulation.
Demonstrated experience of mentoring junior staff and project management
Solid Python skills and ability to produce maintainable code.
Proficiency with leading SDKs (e.g., Qiskit, Cirq) and quantum simulators.
We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every requirement.
Desirable Skills
Industry-relevant experience in domains such as logistics, finance, materials science, or pharmaceutical applications.
Expertise with other advanced simulation or algorithm development (e.g., machine learning, physics-based modelling, and optimization).
Expertise with High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments.
Contributions to open-source libraries or community benchmarks.
Curiosity, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Position Summary
You will be employed by the quantum division of Chalmers Next Labs (CNL), a company within the Chalmers group. You will be employed by Chalmers Next Labs to work at the WACQT Research Arena - Quantum Computing. The job is full-time, permanent employment based in Gothenburg, Sweden. Chalmers Next Labs offers flexible work hours and great work-life balance.
