To achieve this, we work globally to promote and strengthen democracy, good governance and sustainable development at a local level. Our current project portfolio includes collaborations in the regions of the MENA; Eastern Europe; Western Balkans; Latin-America; and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Our work is based on in-depth knowledge and an ability to understand our partners' potential for development and how sustainable results can be achieved together. At our office in Stockholm, we are about 30 people and about 100 people contracted in projects abroad. We are now looking to recruit at least one committed, driven and senior project managers who wants to join and contribute to our vision.
About the role: You will be responsible for managing and supporting our projects in the field of democracy, good governance and local sustainable development. The role includes leadership and management of project teams, strategic dialogue with partners and donors as well as conceptual and operational development of projects and programs. You will also support SALAR-International's project development by exploring new opportunities and taking responsibility for development of new initiatives as relevant. The role includes business trips to project countries, approx. 4-6 times per year.
Main responsibilities:
• Lead project processes and teams, including strategic and day-to-day operational project work within the framework of established goals * Develop and conceptualize strategic support measures within the projects' thematic focus areas
• Develop and maintain strategic communication with partners, donors and critical stakeholders in country contexts
• Ensure timely project delivery, with high quality, effective risk management and aligned with the budget
• Be responsible for ongoing internal and external project reporting and communication
• Be responsible for the project budget and budget follow-up together with the finance team
• Take responsibility for development of new initiatives and projects
• Provide strategic support and quality assurance to other project managers as relevant
Qualifications & requirements:
• Academic degree (Master or equivalent) in a relevant field, such as political science, economics, international relations, community planning and sustainable development or equivalent knowledge acquired in another way
• At least 10 years experience of working with international development cooperation, including experiences of working with bilateral donors, multilateral organisations and/or partners at national and local levels
• Previous work experiences of democracy, good governance and/or local development
• At least 5 years experience in project management through results-based management (RBM)
• Excellent English language skills
• Excellent analytical & writing skills
• Good understanding of Swedish.
Merits:
• Previous experience of strategic project development, including conceptualisation and drafting of project proposals and/or preparing tender proposals * Working experience from the regions of Middle East and North Africa; Eastern Europe; Western Balkans; and Sub-Saharan Africa.
• Considerable thematic knowledge and experience in one or several of the following areas: Environment & Climate; Urban Planning and Recovery; Local Economic Development; Humanitarian Peace Development Nexus; Local Public Service Delivery; Gender Equality
• Very good language skills in other languages strategic for SALAR International such as: French, Arabic, Spanish, Ukrainian, Russian
• Experience in or with a municipality, region, municipal association or state authority
• Knowledge and experience of integrating gender equality and rights perspectives into project work
