At 5G Cloud RAN Distributed Unit, our main task is to systemize, design, test and deliver RAN Layer 3, Layer 2 and parts of Layer 1 product for Cloud Deployment cementing Ericsson as the front-runner in the market.
We are now looking for a Senior Principal Developer Position Baseband Layer 2 Implementation for Cloud Deployments that will join our excellent team in Kista. This is a key Position to ensure the vital technical leadership for the domain. The challenges to be handled includes (but is not limited to):
Understand customer expectations on resilience and elastic scaling. Together with the many deployment configurations the implementation will require a dynamic and adaptable thread and process model
Industry COTS HW offers evolves in a fast pace and the implementation must balance flexibility and portability with performance and utilization to maintain relevancy and technical leadership
The real-time behavior in the L2 part of the RAN application concerning latency require overcapacity when it comes to inter process communication and thread and memory allocation
The heterogenous properties of cloud infrastructure with respect to number of cores, clock frequency, memory and instruction set architectures imposes challenges to find balance between computing parallelization and serialization
The L2 solution will need to run on different HW that may use different NICs and HW accelerators. This must be considered in the choice of architecture.
The effective run to completion property and vector processing with COTS/Linux gives flexibility and scalability to the system since it is possible to take advantage of system information from users/cells previously scheduled. This allows for new types of algorithms to handle, e.g., interference management, carrier aggregation, and beamforming.
What you will do
Position holder shall drive the Baseband Layer 2 for Cloud Deployments architecture, technology development and implementation in collaboration with authorities working with Integrated solutions.

Final saying on the implementation of the domain
Decide on the architectural road map and development direction of the domain
Decide on technology choices within the domain
Responsibilities:
The position holder shall collaborate with Product management to understand customer need and expectations on Cloud Services to secure Cloud RAN portfolio competitiveness and relevancy
Be the main contributor to the Distributed Unit (vDU) System Architecture Description (SAD) Layer 2 parts
Ensure effective utilization of common assets (code, libraries, build objects) between a Cloud RAN solution and Integrated RAN solution
Owner of, and main contributor to, the Development Plan of the domain
Ensure the architecture of the domain is realizable and deployable
Clearly and continuously communicate the purpose of the current architecture and its evolution to the organization to enable delegation of architectural decisions
Ensure close collaboration with authorities in neighboring domains and organizations, especially with Integrated RAN counterparts
Represent Ericsson as a technical leader in contacts with customers, competitors, partners, and academia
Foster innovation and file patents in the domain to secure relevant intellectual property for Ericsson
Teach, coach, and mentor colleagues on the different aspects of the domain
You will bring
MSc or BSc degree in Electrical engineering or Computer Science or equivalent
Strong competence in C/C++
Excellent understanding of LTE & NR 3GPP specifications, especially in Layer 2 and User Plane Control
Understanding of Cloud Native core design principles - microservices, containers, pods, master/worker nodes
Proven track record to deliver sophisticated software solutions, on-time and with quality
Ability to work in international, agile and multi-site teams both collaboratively and autonomously
An enthusiastic demeanor, eager to continue growing and learning, and helping your team to learn
Personality of innovating, adapting, and responding to change
Care about diversity and inclusion, encourage speak-up environments, come with a strong can-do attitude
Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, time management, and multitasking skills
Additional Qualifications:
Experience developing through the Cloud Native Development Pipeline and software content management principles and tools - CI/CD (DevOps), git, Gerrit, GitHub, Jenkins, Spinnaker.
Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Primary location for this role: Stockholm, Sweden.
