As a System Study Engineer, your mission will cover several technical areas, providing great opportunities for varied and developing work. Your main task will be to work with system studies in various simulation platforms to analyze ABB FACTS plants and verify their performance in the connected grid. The work will be in relation to high frequency design, Radio Interference, RI, and Electro-Magnetic Compatibility, EMC. Also included in these studies are voltage regulation and operation during wide-area disturbances, power oscillation damping, sub-synchronous interactions, GIC, Geomagnetically Induced Currents, failure investigations, and more. As our plants are built using advanced power electronics based upon the latest thyristor and IGBT technology, we can offer great opportunities to strengthen your skills within converter technology, automatic control and power systems.
In this role you will also take responsibility for time schedules, budget follow-up and quality control of your work during the entire FACTS project execution process. You will also be involved in research and development activities for our product portfolio. Sweden is the lead center for FACTS technology within ABB and you will be in frequent contact with the other engineering disciplines, sub-suppliers, project managers, customers, local ABB units as well as customers all over the world.

You hold at minimum an M.Sc in Electrical Engineering. You are experienced within power systems analysis and preferably have some job experience in this field. Knowledge in several of the programs and tools we are using is a merit: e.g. Microwave Office, PSCAD, PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, Matlab, EMTP-RV. It is mandatory that you have experience in simulations/analysis of EMC and RI phenomenon as well as some practical experience in this field (e.g. field measurements and analysis, mitigation methods, etc.).
At ABB FACTS, we work in an international environment so it is essential that you communicate fluently in English, verbal and written alike. Additional language skills are qualifying but not required. Your ability to work independently and to assume responsibility is a key to success. You also enjoy collaborating in teams, both internally and with the customer, where you will be accountable for achieving common goals within the given time frames with quality solutions.

You will be part of FACTS, Flexible AC Transmission Systems, in Västerås - an exciting environment with stimulating work and a team consisting of talented engineers from a variety of technical and cultural backgrounds.
FACTS is a business unit within the Power Grids division in ABB. FACTS technologies enable power system owners to increase transfer capacity in their existing power system while at the same time improving electrical stability. As a result, more power reaches the customers with less environmental impact, shorter project time and at lower investment costs compared to alternative solutions. At the ABB FACTS unit in Västerås, we develop and sell this technology to customers around the world.
As a global leader in the technology, we supply FACTS solutions to customers all over the world. We are looking for a new team member interested in working with advanced technology in an international and multi-cultural team.
