http://www.emg.umu.se/english/?languageId=1) . Our department offers a unique breadth of research and education in ecology, physical geography, paleolimnology and environmental health. Around 40 senior scientists and their research groups cover academic research in ecology, evolutionary biology, biogeochemistry and paleolimnology. We offer PhD studies in ecology, physical geography and environmental science. We also host four undergraduate study programmes, and a wide range of courses for over 400 full-time students. Much of our research focuses on the complex influences of environmental factors and organismal traits on ecological and evolutionary dynamics and material flows in ecological communities and ecosystems.
IceLab (Interdisciplinary Science Laboratory) seeks to constitute a hub of interdisciplinary, theoretical science at Umeå University that gathers researchers looking for new ways of modelling and analyzing systems within a broad spectrum, including life- and social sciences. We use mathematical modelling and computational methods to understand patterns and causal relationships in complex systems, and strive to bring together researchers with different scientific backgrounds in order to inspire interdisciplinary collaborations. At present, IceLab is a joint collaboration between the Departments of Ecology and Environmental Science, Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics, and Physics.
In a joint effort, IceLab and the Department of Ecology and Environmental Science are now announcing a position as senior lecturer to carry out research within the area of theoretical and computational ecology defined in a broad sense.
The applicant should have a PhD, or an equivalent exam, with focus on theoretical modelling of research problems in ecology, evolutionary biology, or a related field. Documented experience of real interdisciplinary collaborations, as well as several years of international post-doc experience, are highly qualifying.
The position as senior lecturer is permanent and its responsibilities include research, teaching, and administration, with a strong emphasis on research during the first four years. The successful applicant is expected to create his/her own research group and to supervise graduate students as well as post-docs.
All documents submitted in hard-copy form should be in three copies, and all electronically submitted material should be in MS Word or PDF format. Note, in order to be considered, applications must include copies of reprints.
IceLab and the Department of Ecology and Environmental Science seek for an equal gender balance and, especially, welcome female applicants.
