The centre connects materials science, active-material processing, manufacturing, and digitalization to accelerate Europe's green transition. We develop smarter and more sustainable battery production through advanced diagnostics, AI-enhanced modelling, and digital twins linking materials, processing, and performance.

We are looking for a candidate at the early stage of their academic career for a position as Senior Lecturer. The focus is on metal extraction, with specialization in electrochemistry related to hydrometallurgical processes and the production of high-purity materials. We are seeking a motivated individual who is eager to develop within the field and actively contributes to the progress of our research group.

The research subject of Process Metallurgy conducts research and teaching that covers both hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy, with a focus on the sustainable production of metals and raw materials from primary and secondary resources. Present activities in the research subject are focused on the green transition and how it is related to the mineral and metal value chain, a topic of great importance to Sweden and in particular to the northern parts of Sweden, involving many research subjects at the university, research institutes and industrial partners. The research projects in this area have a strong profile in experimental studies using our own advanced lab scale equipment and cutting-edge analytical techniques for element and mineral characterization, thermodynamic modelling as well as field studies all in collaboration with internal and external partners nationally and worldwide.

Subject description
Process Metallurgy deals with the sustainable extraction of metals from primary and secondary raw materials using both pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical processes.

Duties
Your primary responsibilities will include both research and teaching. You will lead research initiatives, supervise doctoral students, and actively contribute to develop and advancing your academic field within the research subject. This includes securing external research funding and fostering subject development. In addition, you will be involved in teaching activities and the continuous improvement of educational programs. You are also expected to support the university's strategic development and participate in leadership and administrative duties.

Qualifications
To meet the requirements for the appointment as a senior lecturer, the applicants:

• must have been awarded a doctoral degree or must have the corresponding academic competence or other professional expertise that is valuable for the appointment.
• must demonstrate pedagogical expertise by means of proven experience, teaching expertise and teaching development;
• must have completed higher education pedagogy courses equivalent to 7.5 higher education credits or otherwise have acquired equivalent knowledge.

• the degree of expertise required for qualification
• documented knowledge in the field of electrochemistry
• experience from experimental research and modelling in the field of electrochemistry and hydrometallurgy
• administrative proficiency that is of value in view of the subject matter and the duties included in the appointment
• the ability to collaborate with the wider community
• the ability to obtain external research and development funding
• the ability to communicate research and development work
• the ability to teach in Swedish and/or in English.
• willingness and ability to contribute to a collaborative, inclusive, and dynamic research group
• demonstrated ambition and capacity for professional growth, including plans for further qualification
• ability to contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives within the department or university

The position is a permanent full-time employment located in Luleå. Start date by agreement.
