The Department of Landscape Architecture, Planning and Management
The Department of Landscape Architecture, Planning and Management is part of the faculty for Landscape Planning, Horticulture and Agricultural Sciences. Teaching and research responsibilities of the department cover six thematic areas: landscape planning, landscape analysis, governance and management, urban vegetation, cultural heritage, and design of urban landscapes. Teaching and research are multidisciplinary, including the perspectives of the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and technology. Of special concern is the development of action-oriented knowledge about society and sustainable urban environments through studies of planning and design practices. The department's staff comprises 80 members, active in both teaching and research.
Subject area
The subject area of ??the employment is landscape architecture aimed at the development, management and maintenance of urban forests in urban and peri-urban environments as well as in recreational environments in the urban landscape.
The position specializes on Urban vegetation. In Urban vegetation, where the department mainly focuses on developing methods and concepts for the design, construction and management of environmentally effective and attractive vegetation systems. The employment includes research and teaching about factors that influence the development of afforested environments: the design, and maintenance and the methods of establishing woody materials in urban and peri-urban forests.
Duties
The Senior lecturer is expected to actively contribute to research, education and development of the subject area in general. The applicant is expected to carry out applications for research funding, and publish in an international scientific context. The position includes responsibility for research-based teaching. The Senior lecturer shall also act as supervisor on bachelor's and master's levels as, and as assistant supervisor on postgraduate level. Particular focus is on continued development of Alnarp's landscape laboratory as a resource for applied research, demonstration and education both in Sweden and internationally. The applicant is expected to be able to link theoretical knowledge with practical experience in teaching as well as research, and to actively develop cooperation with relevant actors and stakeholders in society.
Qualifications
The applicant must
• have completed a doctoral degree in the subject of landscape architecture, landscape planning or a related subject that suits the subject content of the position
• completed courses in pedagogics corresponding to at least 10 weeks of studies, or acquired equivalent knowledge in other ways
• be pedagogically skilled
• have good oral and written communication skills in a Scandinavian language (no later than within 2 years) and in English
Assessment criteria
Assessment for the appointment will be based on the degree to which a candidate possesses the skills required to qualify for appointment Equal attention will be paid to the assessment of teaching proficiency and the assessment of academic skills.
In the assessment of scientific competence, applicants will be evaluated on the basis of their qualifications in the following areas
• development and management of urban and peri-urban forests
• dynamic development of plant stands through management for recreational and environmental values
The ability to initiate and conduct research and development work in the subject area is a merit. A well-developed international and national network is desirable.
The assessment of pedagogical skills take into account
• experience of course development, planning, implementation, examination and evaluation of teaching
• ability to integrate pedagogical and scientific skills
