At the Institute of Biomedicine, our scientific focus is on basic understanding of the body's cells - what they consist of, how they function, how their function is controlled by the genome and how they interact with different types of microorganisms. With the help of such knowledge, we try to clarify the causes of different disease states, and find new opportunities to diagnose and treat them. The Department of Microbiology and Immunology conducts research and education on the mucosal immune system, infection immunology, vaccine development, immune responses to cancer, inflammatory diseases, hematopoiesis and cellular aging.

Subject area description

Infection immunology involves studies of the various cells and soluble components of the immune system that contribute to protection against microorganisms and how infections can be combated or prevented.

Job assignments

The employment includes teaching and shared responsibility for the development of education in the field of infection immunology and course leadership. The above tasks include teaching in Swedish in the medical program. The employment also includes research and postgraduate education in the subject field. The candidate should be an active and established researcher with external funding. The exact focus of the research may vary, but it is important with a focus on immunological issues with infectious medical relevance. The successful candidate is also expected to perform other duties usually associated with a lecturer, such as administrative duties, and internal and external commissions of trust.

Eligibility

The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.

The applicant must have a PhD degree in a relevant subject and demonstrated pedagogical skills.

Assessment

Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.

Pedagogic and scientific skills are of equal importance. In addition, administrative skills and ability to collaborate in both teaching and science are taken into account. Since the position involves a major teaching assignment, special emphasis is placed on experience in course development and course leadership. Applicants are expected to be able to teach in Swedish and English. A merit is to be an active and established researcher with external funding. The exact focus of the research may vary, but it is important that the applicant focuses on immunological issues with infectious medical relevance.

The successful applicant who has not undergone the University teaching staff training courses at the University of Gothenburg is expected to complete such educational training courses or to have equivalent qualifications from another University validated within the first year of employment.

The employment is a full time permanent position and is located at The Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment is by agreement.
