Senior Lecturer in Immunology with focus on mucosal B-cell immunity
Ref PAR 2023/871
The University of Gothenburg tackles society's challenges with diverse knowledge. 56 000 students and 6 600 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
At the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, undergraduate and postgraduate education is conducted in infection and mucosal immunity, vaccine development and immune regulation in connection with tumours and chronic inflammation. The research is, among other things, focused on infection and mucosal immunity. It includes studies on bacterial and viral pathogens that infect the gastrointestinal tract and respiratory tract, as well as immune regulation in these tissues.
Subject area
Immunology with a focus on mucosal B-cell immunity.
Subject area description
Mucosal B-cell immunity is a subject in immunology that focuses on the development and function of B-cells in mucosal tissues, such as the upper respiratory tract, lungs, and gastrointestinal tract. This includes normal development but also molecular and cellular mechanisms of B-cell activation after infection and vaccination.
Duties
The holder of the position is expected to conduct internationally competitive research within mucosal immunology, especially B-cell immunity during infections. The holder of the position should lead research and postgraduate training and have the ability to attract research funding from both Swedish and international financiers.
The employment also includes teaching and course development at both undergraduate and graduate level. The holder of the position should teach immunology at the faculty's various educational programs and postgraduate courses.
The holder of the position should also perform other tasks that are normally associated with employment as a lecturer, such as administrative tasks, internal and external trust assignments, and represent the subject nationally and internationally.
Eligibility
Eligibility for employment as a teacher is stated in the Higher Education Ordinance and the University of Gothenburg's Employment Ordinance. Eligibility for the employment in question is a doctoral degree in immunology or another subject that the employer deems equivalent for the employment and demonstrated pedagogical skills.
Assessment criteria
Assessment criteria for employment as a teacher are stated in the Higher Education Ordinance and the University of Gothenburg's Employment Ordinance.
In the assessment, the primary basis for assessment will be scientific skill. In assessing scientific skill, special emphasis is placed on scientific contributions to the understanding of B-cell immunity in mucosal tissues after infection. Special emphasis will also be placed on the quality and originality of the scientific research efforts, taking into account scientific publications and presentations. Demonstrated ability to lead research and postgraduate training as well as documented experience in communicating research with the surrounding community are meritorious. Documented experience of cooperation and collaboration with other disciplines within the university and with organizations outside the university, in both healthcare and the private sector, is valuable. A very strong merit is documented ability to obtain research grants in national and international competition. Another important assessment basis of scientific skill is the applicant's progression in the research career after PhD defence and postdoc period.
The secondary basis for assessment is pedagogical skill, where documented experience and ability to apply different pedagogical methods and implement different forms of teaching elements in immunology teaching are meritorious.
Thereafter, administrative ability, experience in communication and collaboration with the surrounding community and the ability to collaborate will be considered.
Employment
The employment is a full time permanent post and is located at The Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment is by agreement.
