Faculty of Forest Sciences
Southern Swedish Forest Research Centre
The centre carries out research, teaching and dissemination of information on forest management in southern Sweden. The research is focused on subjects particularly relevant to southern Sweden, such as the silviculture of deciduous and mixed forests, alternatives to spruce, management of forests with extensive butt-rot, high quality production on fertile sites, damage caused by native and invasive forest pest and pathogens, and competition between ground vegetation and tree seedlings. The research is carried out in close co-operation with the forest industry and other stakeholders in society. Teaching: Courses are held in variety of forest-related topics for Swedish and international students at the bachelor and master level.

Subject area
Forest health is affected by many factors such as climate change, changes in land use, and global trade which can introduce new invasive threats. To effectively manage forest health requires an understanding of the biology, ecology and epidemiology of important native and exotic damaging agents, microbial and insect interactions of forest trees including host symbioses and tree defence mechanisms, and how damage can be anticipated and managed through silvicultural practices or other preventative measures. Particularly in southern Sweden, the increasing co-occurrence of drought and other stressors, coupled with the pressures to achieve the goals of multi-functional forestry, means that better options are needed to increase resilience in forest and peri-urban environments. The Southern Swedish Forest Research Centre therefore announces a Senior Lecturer position in forest pathology.

Duties
The holder is expected to:

• develop and lead teaching of the subject area at basic, advanced and postgraduate level,
• contribute to the development of the postgraduate education of the subject area and supervise doctoral students on the subject,
• develop and lead successful research in the subject,
• develop and maintain national and international networks with researchers, industry, and society in general,
• communicate on ongoing research and research results, and
• actively apply for external research funding.

• have demonstrated pedagogical skill and have undergone around 10 weeks of training in teaching methods or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge.

Assessment criteria
Assessment for the appointment will be based on the degree to which the candidate possesses the skills to qualify for the position. Attained associate professor (docent) or corresponding title is a merit.

When assessing the scientific skills, consideration will be given to:

• experience in more than one research environment corresponding to a doctoral degree or postdoctoral period from another university,
