Employment profile
The Faculty of Humanities and Medias is seeking to appoint a full-time senior lecturer in English, specialising in Linguistics. The appointment is fixed-term from 2011-07-01, or by agreement, to 2012-06-30, with the possibility of renewal. With its 25 employees and around 400 full-time students every year, the English subject plays a leading role in Högskolan Dalarna?s strong languages section, and is central in a planned application for two-year MA rights. The post is full-time with tenure, starting as soon as possible with the agreement of all parties. The post is based in Falun.
Duties
The duties of the successful applicant consist of teaching on and planning of courses at undergraduate and Masters level, proficiency courses at undergraduate level, and essay supervision. Examples of possible courses are: Introduction to Modern English Linguistics, English in the World, English Words and their Structure, English Pragmatics, and Issues in Sociolinguistics. The successful applicant is also expected to take part in development within the subject and eventually take part in research projects related to Högskolan Dalarna?s strategic research profile area Culture, identity and representation. A large part of teaching is net-based. Since close cooperation among the subject?s teachers is the norm, it is assumed that the successful applicant will work regularly at Campus Falun during term time.
Formal requirements
An applicant is deemed to meet the formal requirements to be employed as a senior lecturer if they have a doctoral degree or the equivalent scientific competence, or if they demonstrate other skills relevant for the duties of the post, have successfully completed training in teaching at university level, or in some other way have demonstrated equivalent skills and pedagogical competence. Pedagogical skill is rated as highly as the other formal requirements. An applicant who does not fulfill the above requirements can be seen to have met them if the specific details of the post allow it or if there are special circumstances.
