The institute is also responsible for courses in biomedical laboratory science on master level. The institute is responsible for the program in biomedical laboratory science and offers 19 of the 28 course modules in the program. The institute is responsible for administration and running of the programme. The institute has also achieved an errand to organize complementary education for biomedical laboratory scientists with a foreign education. The errand comprise national coordination of complementary education.

Subject area description
Biomedical Laboratory Science is a theoretical and laboratory discipline, with an emphasis on laboratory and research methodology of diagnostic purposes. Biomedical Laboratory Science is the main area for biomedical scientists and for bachelor and master degrees.
Job assignments
The position includes extensive teaching in the biomedical scientist programme and the complementary education. The job assignments includes teaching in Swedish and English. The employee will be course coordinator for courses within the programme as well as examiner for course modules within the programme. The course coordinator will be responsible for managing and developing courses within the program. Administrative tasks related to education will also be included. The successful candidate will have a relevant education relevant for the teaching tasks or in any other way demonstrated a broad knowledge within biomedical laboratory science. It will be a compelling merit if the candidate holds a qualification as biomedical laboratory scientist (BLS). The candidate is expected to carry out different tasks related to the position as senior lecturer, such as administration, internal and external trust and represent the programme national and international. Other tasks might be defined.
Eligibility
The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
For a position as senior lecturer the applicant must have a PhD degree in a relevant subject and demonstrated pedagogical skills.
Assessment
Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
For the current position pedagogical and scientific skills are of equal importance and the first criteria of assessment. Teaching skills will be of major importance, since the tasks will mainly be teaching within the biomedical laboratory science programme. The ability to lead and plan training and carry out teaching in laboratory medicine will be important for the assessment of pedagogical skills. Demonstrated experience as instructor for courses and as an examiner is a particular advantage. For assessment of scientific skills it is of major importance that the applicant demonstrate independent research, ability to plan and lead research and research education. Proven experience in clinical laboratory work will be a compelling merit as well as a qualification as biomedical laboratory scientist. In relation to the tasks personal characteristics, such as flexibility and accuracy will be of importance, as well as the ability to cooperate. Also, administrative capacity will be considered and should be documented.
The successful applicant who has not undergone the University teaching staff training courses at the University of Gothenburg is expected to complete such educational training courses or to have equivalent qualifications from another University validated within the first year of employment.
