Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences
The Department of Economics

SLU is a world-class university in bio- and environmental sciences, with a vision to play a key role in the development of a sustainable life based on science and education. Within this framework, the Department of Economics serves as an important platform for research and teaching in business and economics with a focus on applied science, often in collaboration with the university's natural sciences disciplines. Our research and teaching are focused on knowledge and understanding of the food and agricultural value chain and the sustainable use, management, and governance of natural resources. The department consists of four research groups: Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Decision-Making and Management, Agricultural Economics, and Natural Resource and Environmental Economics. In addition to research, these groups provide teaching at the undergraduate and master's levels in business administration and economics. The department also includes the AgriFood Economics Center (www.agrifood.se), a collaborative initiative with Lund University on behalf of the Swedish government that provides economic expertise to decision-makers in the areas of food, agriculture, fisheries, and rural development.

The department is primarily located in Uppsala at the Ultuna campus, with a smaller unit in Lund, and consists of approximately 65 staff members, including 15 doctoral students, supported with significant external research funding from organizations such as Mistra, Formas, the EU, and the Swedish Research Council.

We are seeking an associate professor who is motivated to contribute to research and teaching in the Decision-Making and Management research group. The group conducts research in behavioral and experimental economics with a focus on developing an understanding of behavior in value chains within the agricultural and food industries (from farm to fork). The group is responsible for courses related to management, value chains, and scientific methodology.

Subject Area
The subject area is behavioral economics, with a focus on business management.

Duties
The selected candidate should within the subject area:

• develop and lead successful research
• actively seek external research funding
• supervise doctoral students
• lead and develop the department's teaching in management, value chains, and scientific methodology, as well as participate in supervision, examination, and the development of teaching methods
• contribute to and strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration in education and research within and outside SLU
• develop and maintain networks with researchers in similar subject specializations at other academic institutions, nationally and internationally
• contribute to, promote, and strengthen collaboration with societal actors.

The department uses Swedish and English in parallel. The senior lecturer should be able to perform the majority of their tasks in English. However, as SLU is a Swedish-speaking university, the senior lecturer must be able to use Swedish as their working language within four years of beginning the position. The department will provide support with language learning.

Qualifications
The applicant needs to:

• hold a doctorate
• demonstrate research expertise within the subject area
• have oral and written English skills
• demonstrate teaching expertise.

Assessment criteria
The assessment criteria for appointment must be the degree of expertise required as qualification for employment.

When assessing research expertise, the following will be considered:

• completed research efforts and ongoing research
• ability to independently initiate and conduct innovative research
• obtained external research funding in competition.

When assessing teaching expertise, the following will be considered:

• planning, implementation, and examination, as well as evaluations of own teaching
• supervision and examination at the doctoral level
• ability to integrate research and a scientific approach into teaching
• Higher education pedagogical training or equivalent.

The following abilities will also be assessed:

• developing and leading academic activities and personnel
• communication and collaboration
• collaboration with internal and external stakeholders and the surrounding society

Competence specifically in experimental economics with relevance to the overarching subject of behavioral economics is particularly meritorious.

Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration is also meritorious.

The assessment of pedagogical skills will be given equal attention as the assessment of scientific skills. The position will be offered to the candidate who, after a qualitative overall assessment, is deemed to have the best prerequisites to carry out and develop the assigned tasks and contribute to a positive development of the department.

Other information
An appointment as an associate professor at the Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences guarantees funding for personal research corresponding to 35% of a standard salary for an associate professor (at SLU). In addition, the department guarantees funding equivalent to 15% for research, teaching, or administrative work. The remaining 50% is expected to be financed by the associate professor through external research grants or additional teaching assignments.

• In Swedish, this position is titled "universitetslektor", a tenured position approximately equivalent to Senior lecturer (UK) or Associate professor (US). The applicant who is offered this employment at SLU will be employed as Senior lecturer.
