Research groups at the Department of Neuroscience study different aspects of the function of the normal nervous system, as well as disturbances, injuries and diseases affecting the nervous system. Projects include a broad range of studies at the molecular and cellular levels, the network level and at the level of the overall organization of the nervous system.

The department also conducts undergraduate education in neuroscience, anatomy and histology in a number of programs at Karolinska Institutet. To read more about our department, please visit our webpage; www.ki.se/en/neuro/startpage

Division
The research group of professor Kjell Fuxe works on allosteric receptor-receptor interactions in brain heteroreceptor complexes.

The complexes have high relevance for understanding the development of cocaine addiction, Parkinson's disease, depression and schizophrenia and represent novel targets for drug development in mental and neurological diseases.

Duties
The experimental work involved demands many highly advanced neurochemical methods, inter alia : proximity ligation assay resulting in images for advanced confocal laser microscopy of brain sections with quantitation of the PLA positive clusters of heteroreceptor complexes ; FRET and BRET methodologies in cellular models to demonstrate receptor heteromers using the polar star equipment; biochemical radioligand binding experiments in cellular models and in brain tissue with advanced data analysis from saturation and competition experiments to understand the role of receptor-receptor interactions in modulating receptor recognition; dual luciferase reporter gene assay to indirectly detect variations of cAMP levels, PLC-b activity, or activations of MAPK pathway in transiently transfected cell lines to determine integrative signaling in the heteroreceptor complexes; to prepare plasmid constructs for BRET and FRET using molecular biology ; mutational analysis of the receptor protomers to build models of the receptor heterodimer.

These methods should be taught to a large number of students working for short periods in the lab.

Entry requirements
The person should be a postdoc with many years of experience in working in international neurochemical and neuroscience labs and speak English fluently. As a senior lab manager the person employed must master all the methodologies listed above under duties. The person must have lab manager skills and a vast experience in training master and/or PhD students in cellular and molecular techinques. Furthermore, the person must have an excellent record of publications in scientific international journals, including also the use of methods listed under duties.

The following experiences are considered as strong merits:

- FELASA C certification
- Specialist certificate in Spectral Confocal Microscopy
- License for work with radioactive compounds or similar
- Lab manager certificate or similar

The candidate should be enthusiastic, motivated, result-driven and creative minded, with good organization, writing and communication skills. The candidate should be interested in fundamental research questions and be able to work well both independently and in a team environment.

Application process
The application is to be submitted on the MyNetwork recruitment system.
