Summary of duties:
Working in the international business development team of the Embassy of Canada to Sweden in Stockholm, Sweden, under the general direction of the Senior Trade Commissioner, the incumbent is an investment officer acting as the focal point responsible for liaising with foreign companies based in Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark to facilitate Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Canada. The incumbent is responsible for the facilitation of large scale greenfield and expansion investments in Canada.

This competition is open to individuals who are eligible to live and work in Sweden, who meet all of the essential requirements stated below, and whose applications are received by the closing date.

Essential requirements:
Candidates must demonstrate clearly in their application (resume and cover letter) how they meet the essential education and experience requirements listed below:
Education:
Bachelor's or equivalent degree from a recognized university in a field related to the position, including but not limited to: commerce, finance, and economics.
Language requirement:
• Fluency in English (written and spoken).
Experience:
• A minimum of three years of recent* and direct experience in business development or foreign direct investment attraction;
• Experience in managing client and stakeholder relationships and in providing client service support to customers/clients;
• Experience in project management;
• Experience in providing strategic advice, briefings, and written reports to management and/or clients on international business issues; and
• Experience in using social media tools for promotion and/or to generate new business opportunities.
• Recent is described as within the last 10 years.
Knowledge:
Only candidates who meet the essential education and experience requirements will be contacted for further assessment. Knowledge, abilities, and personal suitability will be assessed in the written test and interview for selected candidates.
• Knowledge of the role of governments in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
• Knowledge of the factors that influence investment, expansion and relocation decisions, and of Canada's value proposition for investors.
• Knowledge of trends and recent developments in the Canadian, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, and Danish economies.
Abilities:
• Communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing;
• Secure, prepare for, conduct, and provide follow-up to an investment outcall;
• Build and sustain a network of contacts;
• Analyze information and provide strategic advice;
• Manage multiple priorities with tight deadlines;
• Use social media tools for promotion and/or to generate new business opportunities;
• Use of technology tools and data bases.

Asset qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications:
• The ability to communicate effectively in French, both orally and in writing. (The minimum level accepted under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is B1.)
• The ability to communicate effectively in Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, and/or Danish, both orally and in writing. (The minimum level accepted under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is B1.)
• A graduate degree from a recognized university (Master's degree or Ph.D.).
If candidates meet one or more of the factors listed in the asset qualifications, they must also clearly demonstrate how they meet each factor in their application (resume and cover letter).
Operational requirements:
• Must be willing and able to travel within Sweden and to Norway, Finland, Denmark, and possibly Iceland;
• Must be able to work planned overtime and overtime on short notice on occasion; and
• Must be available for occasional duties outside normal working hours (i.e., evenings and weekends).
Condition of employment (must be met):
• Ability to obtain and maintain Government of Canada Reliability Status.
• Must hold and maintain a valid driver's license.
• Must be admissible for travel to Canada and within Europe.
