Who are we
The Exterior design department is responsible for delivering material from ideation all the way through the industrialization process, from concept all the way to serial production. We are working in an extremely complex environment, with the latest technology and challenging engineering demands.
Your Mission
Your purpose is to form innovative world-class design solutions that push the future development of both the Volvo & Polestar Brands. Here you will create compelling and appropriate design proposals for concept and production car programs in the form of sketches, renderings of 2D and 3D digital models. With ease, you can present and communicate design proposals using multiple media. This includes working on a broad range of advanced design and production programs.
As Senior Expert Designer you support Digital modellers with a clear visual and verbal direction in the creation of digital models, physical models, and CG rendering. Collaborate with studio engineering on design solutions that can be brought to production You will also support program timing by delivering appropriate design proposals with speed and efficiency.
Who you are
You are an expert in your field with in-depth knowledge of the design process and what it takes to bring a car from sketch to reality. You must utilize all design skillsets to create quality proposals of your own. As part of the design team at Volvo Cars, you are responsible for design deliverables for given tasks. It is important that you have excellent communication skills and could describe and communicate personal design ideas.
In a Global Organisation, you will collaborate cross-functionally with all team disciplines. We see that you have the ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as internal teams.
With an eye for details and a passion for cars, you will take part in designing the future in a rapidly changing industry. We see that you are patient with a positive attitude, flexible, result-oriented as well as having the ability to understand and implement the product development process.
To succeed, we believe that your background and skills include:
• Bachelor or master's degree in design in transportation / automotive design.
• Express a high level of creativity through visual communication skills including manual sketching, digital sketching, digital rendering, 3D Tape drawing and surface knowledge.
• Advanced skills in Alias Automotive Studio, VRed, VR, Photoshop, PPT and other visual medias
• Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as internal teams.
• Advanced knowledge of design quality, themes, proportions and surface execution.
• Advanced level or storytelling, organization skills and presentation skills both verbally and in graphic form.
• Interview and scouting skills for both potential designers/modellers, and interns.
• More than 5 years' experience in the field of automotive design.
• Fluent English communication skills.
• Periodic travel may be required, including the potential for international travel for full time employees.
