About the Team
The Content Platform team automates the ingestion, quality-control, and enrichment of the Storytel catalog. Hundreds of thousands of audiobooks, ebooks, and podcasts pass through our processing pipeline and are made available to product and partnership teams via APIs and event streams.
To match our aspirations in this area we are recruiting a Senior Engineering Manager to manage and evolve this core pillar of our service.
We're in the process of reshaping around the ideas of platform delivery and content relationships, which presents you the opportunity to impact both the technical and product direction of the team.
About the Role
As the senior engineering manager in Content Platform, you'll grow and coach engineers across multiple workstreams, helping them to shape the platform and meet our product goals.
You'll orchestrate the combination of automation, ML models, and back-office curation tools to provide Storytel with the richest possible catalog we can build user experiences on top of.
As an internal "platform" you'll also focus on creating a stable, evolvable, and structured data catalog to accelerate product and partnership development.
Your main responsibility is to create an environment where everyone in your area can excel; on the team level but also on, domain, and org level. You will ensure there is a high level of teamwork, transparency, and efficiency in collaboration within the team and with other teams.
• Grow, coach, and guide talents both directly, and through other leads reporting to you.
• Ensure that meaningful goals are set and met within all teams of your area.
• Work with and contribute to the rest of the senior engineering management group on our policies and long-term goals.
• Be accountable for technical delivery and work with your area on strategy and execution.
• Ensure that there is a strong culture of innovation and experimentation.
• Responsible for operational excellence; in how we run reliable and scalable services and the process resulting in these services being delivered.
• Growing new leaders; both within the IC and management track. Develop people through coaching and mentoring. Conduct regular 1:1s, goal setting, and feedback conversations with talents to ensure their well-being and team health, and support them in their growth.
• Recruit great talents within all disciplines of your area.
About you
You are action-oriented and enjoy continuously working on improvement within the team. You are someone who anticipates and addresses issues with communication, performance, interpersonal dynamics, and unclear ownership. The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about building for others, and always makes technology choices with this end goal in mind.
To be successful in this role we believe that you:
• Have experience in running highly effective teams with a back-office / platform scope.
• Have experience in guiding through change in a safe and productive way.
• Are strategic and visionary, not afraid to push the envelope, and questions the status quo.
• Are technical but prefer leaning on management and facilitation skills to drive technical decision-making. You put people and team first, and understand how that is the foundation for everything we do.
• Have experience in working with distributed and remote teams.
• Have good communication skills.
• Believe in innovation and experimentation.
