At Sandvik Materials Technology (SMT) our mission is much more than to just handle good products, technology and processes - working together to develop solutions based on our customers' needs, and, thereby, achieving our business goals is a better description of our daily work. With curious co-workers and safety as our first priority, we create a work environment where you can grow both personally and professionally.
One important application area for SMT is the electrochemical energy conversion and storage industry which includes applications such as fuel cells (both PEMFC and SOFC), electrolyzers and batteries. Sandvik's proprietary production process for mass production of pre-coated strip steel materials for these applications are central.
To strengthen our competence within R&D, particularly in coated strip materials, we are now looking for a creative and goal-oriented Senior Engineer to join us in Sandviken (Sweden). You have a true passion and enthusiasm for the future development of our coated strip steel developed specifically for fuel cell bipolar plates, and we offer you an inspiring research environment at the forefront of an exciting area of technology.
Job Summary
As Senior Engineer, you are responsible for leading and participating in various types of development initiatives that cover the scope of the energy conversion and storage area. In this position, your main focal point is the performance and function of our thin film coatings for bipolar plates in fuel cells. One important task is to continually increase the knowledge platform of the thin film coated strip steel to facilitate research-based decisions in the business ramp-up.
Our projects and assignments are based on technical requirements and demands from both external customers and the internal production organization. You enjoy collaborating and communicating with multiple stakeholders maintaining qualitative and prosperous relationships e.g. with customers and universities.
Your profile
We are looking for someone with a documented background of working with advanced microstructural and material characterization techniques, preferably within surface science. A Ph. D. in material science and material characterization is desirable, but applicants with a Master's degree combined with relevant experience in these areas will also be considered. Experience in thin film coatings as well as deposition processes are valuable assets. A broad knowledge of fuel cells, electrolyzers and batteries will be appreciated. As we interact in a global environment, we expect you to have excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing.
We are truly interested in your personality - you have a positive and curious mindset, excellent structure and an efficient working style. As innovative initiator, you are eager and motivated to acquire new knowledge and identify viable conventional as well as unconventional solutions. Moreover, you easily prioritize your daily challenges and tasks to achieve high quality results. With a service-oriented perspective and as a true team player, you naturally interact and collaborate with others, but can also operate independently. We require you to be able to structurally plan and execute your research activities along with the careful analysis and documentation of your results. As a strong communicator, you share knowledge and information within the organization in an inspiring and pedagogical way.
We are a company with an open-minded culture, actively working to create a workplace that is characterized by diversity and inclusion.
