Position Description
Cost Engineering is a function directly reporting to the SVP for Volvo GTT, with a responsibility for a scientific approach of calculating product & tooling costs, during the development phases from Technology Creation through the end on the industrialization phase. The Cost Engineering Business Area is a Volvo global enterprise function for Construction Equipment, Bus and Penta; represented in multiple locations within Europe, USA, India, and Brazil.
The Cost Engineering Business Area team is currently seeking a Senior Cost Engineer Casting, primarily supporting Volvo Construction Equipment in Europe. This position will be located in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibility will be to calculate part prices and tooling investments, both in new projects and support projects currently in progress.
Work side-by-side with engineering and design teams, from the beginning of the concept selection phase.
Provide suppliers with in-depth technical updates regarding their production lines or layouts related to cost drivers and investments.
Actively participate in the negotiations with suppliers
Active partner with Product Development supporting with Design to Cost, providing industrial engineering support
Educational and Professional Requirements
Minimum B.S in Mechanical Engineering and/or minimum 15 years of equivalent experience; including manufacturing engineering, sales engineering, or product development.
Extensive experience in mechanical engineering such as forging, casting, welding, machining, heat & surface treatment, etc.
In-depth knowledge of materials such as steel grades, iron, aluminum, alloys, etc.
Professional in-depth knowledge in process and production times, assembly methods for manufacturing of various parts.
Knowledge associated with the calculation of the costs for SGA, OH for raw-material/Purchased parts and services, manufacturing OH and Profit markups.
Key Competencies
Excellent communications skills, including verbal and written presentations.
Experience working in cross-functional teams.
Able to negotiate skillfully in tough situations with both internal and external groups.
