Position Description:

Cost Engineering is a function directly reporting to the SVP for Volvo GTT Finance & Control, with a responsibility for a scientific approach of calculating product & tooling costs, during the development phases from Technology Creation through the end on the industrialization phase. The Cost Engineering is a Volvo global enterprise function for Trucks, Construction Equipment, Bus and Penta, represented in multiple locations within Europe, USA, India, and Brazil. This position are focused on Volvo Bus projects

Responsibilities:
Calculate cost objectives and support the targets created for the sourcing process
Primary responsibility will be to calculate part prices and tooling investments, both in new projects and support projects currently in progress
Perform cost objective setting and cost breakdowns of new and existing parts based on drawings or physical parts
Work side-by-side with engineering and design teams, from the beginning of the concept selection phase
Maintain a close watch on products through the development phases and actively support the targets set in the sourcing process
Provide support during the change management process; calculating impart in tooling and product cost
Provide suppliers with in-depth technical updates regarding their production lines or layouts related to cost drivers and investments
Frequent visits to suppliers and technical exhibitions to maintain knowledge of current product methods and materials; future technology that will be beneficial when our products go into production
Actively participate in the negotiations with the suppliers, in both the commercial and technical aspects of our products and projects
Active partner with Product Development supporting with Design to Cost, providing industrial engineering support, advice on efficient designs for manufacturability and also on material selection to fulfill the design criteria
Participate in negotiations together with Purchasing, both in the initial sourcing and in the change management process
Required to frequently visit suppliers and attend technical exhibitions to maintain current knowledge of production methods and materials, as well as future technologies that will be used when our products go into production

Educational and Professional Requirements:
Minimum B.S in Mechanical Engineering and/or minimum 15 years of equivalent experience; including manufacturing engineering, sales engineering, or product development
Extensive experience in mechanical engineering such as laser/plasma/oxy-cutting, bending, welding, machining, surface treatments, casting, forging, fabrication
In-depth knowledge of materials such as steel grades, aluminum, alloys, etc.
Professional in-depth knowledge in process and production times, assembly methods for manufacturing of various parts
Knowledge associated with the calculation of the costs for SGA, OH for raw-material/Purchased parts and services, manufacturing OH and Profit markups
Knowledge and understanding of change management as it relates to the impact on dies/tools; and be able to transfer this into cost
Knowledge in tooling and dies manufacturing, such as design, CNC, die spotting, bench work, including spark eroding

Key Competencies:
Excellent communications skills, including verbal and written presentations
Experience working in cross-functional teams
Excellent attention to detail; priority setting; driven to achieve results
Comfortable working within a team, but also willing to take action on initiatives and work independently with integrity and trust
Able to negotiate skillfully in tough situations with both internal and external groups
