We are now recruiting a Senior Cellular Bioreagent Scientist for an assignment lasting until 30th June 2013, preferably with start as soon as possible, location Mölndal.

Job Purpose:

This role is to be lab-based, providing strong expertise in the competency of Cell Science with focus on Eukaryotic Cell Culture. You should propose experimental strategies, troubleshoot problems and to make a significant contribution to the practical delivery of projects in accordance with SHE requirements and in compliance with all AZ Corporate responsibility policies. A strong cellular assay development knowledge would be an advantage. The following skills are highly desirable:

• Mammalian and Insect (Baculovirus and Drosophila) cell culture
• Protein expression to enable the purification of proteins for structure, target validation and/or screening
• Production of cells and membranes to be used directly for target validation and screening
• Expression screening and multi-parallel approaches
• Large scale cell supply (eg. Wave, Use of fermentors, cell factories etc)
• Functional characterization of cells
• Development of stable cell lines including all aspects of large scale production
• Knowledge of viral tools for expression and cell line generation
• Experience of drug discovery and cell deliverables in an industrial setting
• Culturing primary cells
• Transient transfection utilising different technologies such as Maxcyte and PEI transfection
• Practical understanding of assay development and optimisation to enable generation of robust, reproducible and sensitive assays

Accountabilities:

In this role you should lead and act as a mentor and coach for research scientists. You should use your knowledge where appropriate to influence the work of the project, team, section and department. You should also contribute to writing abstracts/patents and peer-reviewed publications.

The successful candidate is a communicative team player that likes to work within a group and collaborate while meeting deadlines. You should be organized, accurate and be able to work independently to contribute to the design and analysis of experimental procedures by incorporating the views of others while moving forward.

Technical Lead/Supervisor

This role should be a technical specialist in the Cell Science area, more practically based, keep methods running efficiently, good at troubleshooting methods, put ideas into practice, provide support/supervision, leadership and coaching to scientists, employ key methodologies, ensure that methods are run efficiently & correctly, help and guide set-up of new methodologies.

Qualifications:

You should have a Ph.D. degree or corresponding experience in a relevant scientific discipline with extensive experience in drug discovery and/or early development. Or a first degree and extensive relevant additional experience in drug discovery and early development.
