Senior CAE Engineer - Seats

At RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT you will be a key contributor to the next generation outstanding luxury cars from Volvo. Together with other engineers over the world, you and your team will create innovative human-centric car technology that makes life less complicated and more enjoyable for people. As SENIOR CAE ENGINEER within the section Seats, you will take the lead in promoting and conducting a higher level of CAE driven development of our complete seat systems in terms of performance and comfort. You will support the development team to balance our seats with respect of weight, cost, and performance and conduct relevant robustness analysis on the component/subsystem. You will act as a link between the complete vehicle simulation team and the construction teams/suppliers and be responsible for CAE model deliveries to the complete vehicle simulation models. This is a new function within Seats and we are looking for you who are able to work independently and form the position in order to drive our system and components towards new heights. You will be part of a CAE team network on department level.

Seats is part of the Interior and Climate department. The department develops the interiors of all Volvo cars with responsibility for the complete design process from concept development to industrialisation. The development work is mainly performed in Gothenburg and is conducted in cross functional teams in close co-operation with suppliers, purchasing and manufacturing. Interior and Climate also have employees located in Gent, Chongqing and Shanghai. Job profile:

• Lead and develop new virtual analysis and verification methods for seat system and components and develop system requirements in collaboration with the Comfort Attribute Leader, CAE Engineer Seat Safety and the CAE Strategy Engineer
• Actively take part in cross-functional teams to propose and evaluate technical solutions to ensure that Volvo cars meet our high comfort and safety standards
• Perform virtual simulations of seat comfort, ergonomics performance, NVH (noise vibration harshness) and static strength
• Analyse and evaluate seat systems, constructions and performance
• Act as a link between the complete vehicle simulation team and the construction teams/suppliers

Your profile:

• M.Sc. degree in engineering or equivalent background
• 5 years experience of documented operational FE (finite element) work (implicit and explicit)
• Well developed communications and co-operational skills
• Analytical and structured
• Fluent in English, (in speech and writing)
• Enjoy to work independently as well as in groups
• Experience from Hypermesh, Ansa, Abaqus and Dyna is meritorious
• Experience from managing CAE is meritorious
• Experience from physical testing/CAE validation work is meritorious
