Senior Buyer Indirect Purchasing

The purchasing function within Volvo Car Group is divided between Production Purchasing and Indirect Purchasing. The Indirect Purchasing department is divided into three sections; Facilities, Machinery & Tooling, and Services and Logistics & Operational development. We work with our stakeholders to create and deliver supreme value together with our suppliers.

As a Senior Buyer you will be a part of a group that consists of seven purchasers buying Tooling & Test Equipment for all European Volvo sites. Equipment example: Stamping dies, die design, Press lines & maintenance, Emission systems, Test rigs, Crash test equipment, Measurement equipment, and Design models. You will execute operational purchasing activities of IDP to support stakeholders within defined commodities. Support the implementation of strategic sourcing results and promote the operational efficiency. You will work closely with the stakeholders and execute procurement activities and implement contracts, agreements, and new processes such as QA and CSR & sustainability. You will carry out and develop efficient standardised req-to-pay processes. As a Senior Buyer you will work in close collaboration with Purchasing Managers, Strategic Buyers, and Stakeholders to ensure acceptance and implementation of the sourcing strategy and actively participate in the validation of the sourcing strategy implementation approach.

Main responsibilities

• Review purchase requisitions, identify and select contracts suppliers in accordance with defined strategies and agreement and place orders
• Advise stakeholders of modifications from original requests (if alternative, more cost efficient, or otherwise beneficial alternatives exist)
• Negotiate and sign agreements
• Participate as required in global and regional strategic sourcing projects
• Provide market data and information to strategic sourcing teams
• Validate completeness and relevance of RFI/RFQ
• Support in the evaluation and selection of suppliers
• Track key performance indicators on supplier and stakeholder contracts compliance; define and take corrective actions to improve contracts compliance
• Support the implementation of new consumption policies
• Continuously drive/support cost reductions, Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and find business opportunities in collaboration with Purchasing managers, strategic buyers, and stakeholders
• Drive procurement initiatives and manage sourcing outside defined strategies
• Perform necessary market analysis to support the sourcing activity
• Screen, shortlist and select potential suppliers through a RFI and RFQ process
• Develop negotiation tactics and lead supplier negotiations
• Work with stakeholders and suppliers in order to resolve issues
• Continuously track supplier performance on quality and cost
• Initiate and conduct supplier evaluations and supplier audits
• Drive operational efficiency

Required qualifications

• Technical University education (or equivalent)
• Experience from Engineering
• Experience from Commercial work
• Experience from Commercial negotiations and legal knowledge
• Excellent knowledge in Microsoft Excel
• Excellent communication skills in English (written and oral)
• Experience from automotive stamping dies and press line projects is meritorious
• Knowledge in Chinese and/or Dutch is meritorious
• Project experience within stamping dies and tooling equipment will be an asset
