We are looking for 1-2 permanent positions providing advanced bioinformatics support, located at the emerging SciLifeLab Bioinformatics Platform node in Linköping.

Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab, www.scilifelab.se ) in Sweden serves as a national infrastructure to support advanced high-throughput life science research. Originally located in the Stockholm/Uppsala region, SciLifeLab is currently one of the fastest-growing life science research establishments in Europe, now also forming satellite nodes at other universities across Sweden.

The bioinformatics platform at SciLifeLab is a national infrastructure in rapid growth and development, now looking for 1-2 permanent staff members to join the Bioinformatics Long-term Support team (a.k.a WABI) in Linköping. The new recruit(s) will aid the build-up of the national infrastructure by establishing a local platform node in Linköping. The advertised staff will be fully integrated in the national Bioinformatics Long-term support team, with staff placed at SciLifeLab nodes in Umeå, Uppsala, Stockholm, Göteborg, Linköping, and Lund. The position(s) will be placed in the vibrant bioinformatics environment at the Department for Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM), with important connections to other bioinformatics centres in Linköping.

The Bioinformatics Long-term Support team provides advanced bioinformatics analyses to some of the most scientifically exciting projects across Sweden. Launched in the beginning of 2013, the team currently holds 15 full-time senior bioinformaticians, and has been established as one of the strongest units for analyses of large-scale genomic data in Sweden. Examples of supported scientific areas are medical genomics and transcriptomics, cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, other complex traits, proteomics, as well as evolutionary, ecological and environmental genomics.

Tasks
The national bioinformatics staff will

• provide advanced bioinformatics support to nationally prioritized projects
• provide teaching at national and regional courses and workshops
• promote national and regional bioinformatics networking and knowledge transfer
• take part in the continuous development and improvement of the bioinformatics support at a national level

Continuous professional development is included as an important aspect of the position. One or a few days of travelling per month, mainly domestic, is expected.

Qualifications
The successful candidates have (i) a PhD or similar relevant working experience from advanced studies within bioinformatics, either within academia or industry, (ii) fluent oral and written communication in English, and (iii) strong skills in cooperation and communication. Postdoctoral studies are a strong merit but not a requirement. We are looking for candidates experienced in providing analyses, software solutions, database design and/or user interfaces in areas like whole genome variant discovery, statistical genetics, population genetics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, systems biology, structure biology and integrative bioinformatics.
