Join ALTEN and help shape the future of powertrain technology!
ALTEN is looking for a Senior Application Developer in Control Systems to strengthen our powertrain-focused engineering teams. If you want to work at the forefront of automotive innovation and contribute to advanced propulsion and energy-efficient solutions, this role is for you.
In this position, you will develop, verify, and optimize control system functions for modern powertrain technologies-such as combustion engines, hybrid systems, electrified propulsion, and various aftertreatment or thermal management systems. You will work end-to-end across the product lifecycle: from concept development and advanced engineering to continuous improvement and field support.
Your work will be hands-on and varied, combining model-based software development with testing in both rigs and vehicles. You will be part of an agile development team, planning and delivering high-quality solutions together in short sprints.
Your responsibilities may include:
Designing, implementing, reviewing, and verifying embedded control functions for powertrain and propulsion systems.
Troubleshooting and performing root-cause analysis on embedded software issues and recommending improvements.
Participating in system design and engineering tasks in collaboration with calibration engineers, system architects, and hardware teams.
Ensuring quality, performance, and readiness before software release.
Supporting method and process development in model-based software engineering and verification.
Conducting functional tests in rigs and vehicles to validate system behavior under real conditions.

We believe you have:
Education
B.Sc., M.Sc., or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

Experience
5+ years of experience in embedded software development, ideally within powertrain, propulsion control, combustion engines, hybrid systems, or related automotive domains.

Technical Skills
Strong skills in model-based development: MATLAB/Simulink, TargetLink.
Programming experience in C and Python.
Good understanding of control theory and real-time embedded systems.
Basic knowledge of mechatronics, thermodynamics, or chemistry applicable to powertrain systems.

Soft Skills
Excellent teamwork and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
Strong sense of ownership and accountability.
Analytical mindset with great attention to detail.
Passion for technology and continuous improvement.

Meritorious / Nice to Have
Experience with diagnostics, emission strategies, or system engineering within powertrain.
Familiarity with automotive industry standards and regulatory frameworks.
