Our main objectives are to secure genetic diversity and thus, the biological basis for renewable resources, and to be in forefront at the international level both as a service and knowledge centre for the management of genetic resources of farm animals, forest trees and plants. NordGen has 32 persons employed and has its main office at Alnarp, Sweden, close to Malmoe. NordGen also has a smaller division at Ås, Norway.
Svalbard Global Seed Vault (SGSV) is a safety storage site for the world's crop diversity. The SGSV aims at safeguarding the world's most important plant genetic resources for food and agriculture with a maximum level of security. The SGSV offers free-of-charge back-up for the seed collections held in seedbanks around the world.
NordGen is responsible for the operation and management of the SGSV. NordGens operative responsibility for SGSV is done according to an agreement with our partners in the funding; the Norwegian Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the Global Crop Diversity Trust.
NordGen is seeking a person with a strong knowledge and experience in plant genetic resources, with higher academic education (MSc or PhD) in genetics, conservation genetics, agriculture/or breeding or related disciplines. Working experience obtained from research and development, breeding organizations, conservation organisations, international processes and networking and/or public administration is appreciated. Media communication experience is a strong asset. Strong English communication skills are required as well as knowledge of one of the Scandinavian languages.
Main responsibilities:
Provide overall leadership and internal coordination of SGSV management and operation. Tasks include, but are not restricted to:
Entering into deposit agreements, planning and preparing for seed shipments, organization of the deposit openings at Svalbard.
Promote the SGSV to stakeholders in international forums, networks and meetings.
Coordinate activities with the partners in the funding, management and operation of the SGSV.
Coordinate financial administration, quarterly and annual reporting, QA-system management and International Advisory Council secretariat tasks of NordGen according to the partnership agreement for SGSV
Coordinate activities with Statsbygg, the Norwegian public agency which oversees the physical maintenance of the SGSV
Communicate with media and respond to public requests for information and visits
Contribute to development of presentations, publications and information materials for the SGSV.
Contribution to meetings, seminars and the daily team-based work of NordGen at NordGen?s headquarters.
The position requires travelling.

Employment contract according to the regulations of the Nordic Council of Ministers. The employment contract will be signed first for 4 years with the possibility for an additional 4 years.
Salary according to individual agreement, other working conditions are given by the regulation of the employment agreements of the State of Sweden.
