The department Electrical Systems Design is responsible for the entire electrical system. Electrical Systems Design consists of seven sections and the group Base Tech Analysis and Verification. It is a part of the section System Verification, which is responsible for testing all base technologies in the electrical platform. Base tech testing means integration testing and system testing. We together and within Volvo cars Research and development department ensure next generation luxury connected cars comply with various specified requirements. This process involves security verification of the cutting-edge technologies that leverage the V2X connectivity through the Automotive Electronic Control Units (ECUs) - containing millions of lines of code - within vehicles.
Base tech testing implies both integration and system testing. In integration testing we verify compatibility between ECU hardware and ECU software, whereas system testing involves the complete vehicle such as SWDL, diagnostics, gateway communication, RMS, automatization, security,. etc. within the vehicle's electrical system.
We are now looking for an ambitious security test and verification engineer to perform various verification methods. This position demands knowledge of information security and vehicular communication protocols. The ideal candidate will create and automate test cases according to actual requirements in addition to testing with manual tools and documenting the results.
You will build and maintain a wide personal network within R&D. You will monitor progress in the tests and you will summarize the results to your team members and to the car projects.
Main Responsibilities
Perform all necessary security testing activities related to in-vehicle communication independently or as a part of a team
Work with the test team and engineering teams to identify the security requirements
Collaborate with concept owners to establish verification methods
Verify security of different types of ECUs such as Infotainment, Gateway and Connectivity
Create and execute test cases for different ECUs and builds
Ability to work with different test environment within a car or Boxcar
Ensuring adequate level of details and accuracy in reports and resultsDemonstrate critical thinking and creative analytical skills to lower the false-positive rates in testing
Required qualifications
M.Sc or B.Sc. within computer science and engineering, electronics, mechatronic or equivalent
Understanding of software system testing
Proficient in programming languages such as C/C++ and Python/Bash/CAPL
Knowledge and experience on vehicle networks and communication protocols such as CAN, TCP/IP, IEEE 802.11x, BLE and Bluetooth
Experience of one or several tools such as Wireshark, CANalyzer and CANoe
Previous working experience with base technologies is a merit
Fluent in English, written and spoken
Driving license "B"
Preferred qualifications
Previous security research
Experience with reverse engineering, pen-testing for embedded devices
International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) certification
Some experience within Volvo Cars
