Role Summary/Purpose:

"Analytical Technologies" is a new section within the Downstream Bioprocessing Department (~90 people) which belong to the Global BioProcess R&D (~500 people). The section is based in Uppsala and consists of ~15 highly skilled research engineers and scientists all with an analytical background. The section is responsible for setting up new analytical technologies as well as for method development and optimization of existing technologies such as LCMS, GCMS, NMR, confocal microscopy etc.

Essential Responsibilities:

The section will be involved in research projects, new product development as well as product support (eg product and process care). Typical products developed from the department are chromatography resins and other consumables used in BioPharma manufacturing (manufacturing of eg monoclonal antibodies, vaccines and recombinant proteins). We now look for a Section Manager that can provide a strong technical leadership in the defined area and also has a passion for people management and development.

The Section Manager is expected to:
Manage personnel, resources and activities within the section in order to fulfill project, section, department and R&D priorities.
Effectively leverage the section resources and assets
Build up and keep internal and external networks and lead the development of the assigned technology areas
Secure long term competences, including training, transfer plans, recruiting, promotion, mentoring and coaching
Act as reviewer, chairman or QA delegate in project reviews
Set up and act as chairman for the global analytical forum
Drive innovation and new idea generation within the section
Develop a short and long-term strategy (technical and operational) for the area Analytical technologies

Qualifications/Requirements:

Minimum MSc or equivalent
Minimum significant years' experience of industrial development from the Pharma, Biotech or similar
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals and in group settings
Excellent communication skills
Ability to motivate and lead
Ability to support the section's technical breadth
Ability to work as a team member in the department leadership team
Ability to take on initiatives across functions and support the broader priorities of the department and R&D

Desired Characteristics:

PhD in Analytical chemistry, Biochemistry or similar
Broad experience from protein purification and analysis
Proven management skills such as team leader, project management, supervisor or activity responsible
Ability to present ideas and results both in formal and informal settings
Proven ability to co-operate with different cultures and business functions
Professional attitude to processes and routines
