Description of directorate/division
ESS centralized Engineering & Integration Support Division is part of the ESS Machine directorate.
The E&IS Division is a service provider of engineers and designers for the ESS projects for in-house design activities as well as activities performed by collaborating organisations. E&IS is responsible for development and maintenance of the design processes including accommodation and maintenance of design systems and tools. E&IS is also responsible for the management of the Product Data Management system, the integrated CAD-model at ESS, the ESS Plant Layout (EPL) and classification and standardisation of e.g. components and materials.
Description of main responsibilities
As Section Leader you will supervise, manage and provide supervisory skills to the Plant and Process team, and you will be working with mechanical, plant and processing engineering and design. In-line with this objective the key accountabilities will include but are not limited to:
• Plan and organize the work and assignments for the personnel in the section
• Assure and supply needed competence as requested from the organisation and develop the section and the personnel in accordance with needs at ESS
• Introduce and educate staff in design and engineering platform and in ESS overall routines
• Develop, review and validate plant and process design procedures and associated documents, e g QA-procedures, in accordance with applicable procedures, requirements, regulations, rules and standards
• Review proposed designs and other documents performed by the section and external collaborators
• Gain experiences from different work units, develop and transmit to the members of the section
• From other divisions' requests allocate resources from the E&IS Division
The engineering role also comprises:
• Prepare presentations and responds to recommendations from technical design reviews and advisory committees
• Participate in R&D and prototyping of technical equipment
• Proactively identify and ensure timely resolution of critical design issues
• Review and assist in creation of the design and requirement documents
• Design engineering using CAD-tools for plant design and piping
• Manage procurement of components/services when required
• Engineering activities from requirements to installation
• Writing technical specifications, performing market surveys and price enquiries to find appropriate suppliers
• Supervision of technical staff and designers for prototyping, production and follow-up of supply contracts
Qualifications
ESS is looking for a team leader of Plant and Process, who has significant experience and expertise in supervising and managing plant and processing engineering and design towards facilities such as ESS or similar.
• Bachelor in mechanical, energy or chemical engineering (Master preferred) or an equivalent combination of education and design experience
• Experience in plant and processing engineering and solution of complex engineering problems
• Experience in a plant design software tool
• Knowledge of the technical concepts of drafting plus basic plant and processing engineering principles, codes and standards required
• Ability to analyse and solve basic processing engineering problems, e.g. within thermo- and fluid dynamics, dimensioning piping systems, using traditional calculation methods and engineering tools
• Experience of working in an international environment is essential
• Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
