Beskrivning av verksamheten
MAX IV Laboratory, a part of Lund University, has operated successfully for more than 25 years and is currently building the new MAX IV synchrotron facility in Lund.
More than 900 scientists from Sweden and the rest of the world are coming to the MAX IV Laboratory every year to use the x-rays produced by our electron accelerators. They do research in areas such as materials science, structural biology, chemistry, and nanotechnology.

170 people are currently employed at the MAX IV Laboratory. The MAX IV facility, the largest and most ambitious Swedish investment in research infrastructure, will be the brightest source of x-rays worldwide and will replace the existing laboratory, which today consists of the storage rings MAX I, II and III. The new MAX IV facility will become operational in June 2016.

Dina arbetsuppgifter
SoftiMAX is a soft x-ray imaging beamline with two branches, to be located at the new MAX IV 3 GeV ring. It will feature two experimental stations, one for scanning transmission x-ray microscopy (STXM) and one for coherent x-ray imaging (CXI), including holography, ptychography and other coherence methods.

The scope of the beamline is to enable imaging applications in diverse fields ranging from magnetism and soft matter, to environmental and biomedical applications. MAX IV's exceptional low emittance ( www.maxlab.lu.se/softimax .

We are now looking for a promising Scientist, who enjoys working in an international and creative environment, to join our team working on SoftiMAX. Depending on the seniority/experience level of the candidate, the position can be either permanent or temporary (2 years).

The tasks include:

• Development, design and implementation of the CXI experimental station of the SoftiMAX beamline. This includes areas such as X-ray optics for nanoscale imaging, development of sample environments and manipulation of samples, integration of (X-ray) detectors in the set up, and aspects of data analysis/data management.
• To contribute and share in planning and design of the beamline and its infrastructure.
• To participate in development and expansion of the future user community of the beamline.
• To develop an independent research and development prog

Utbildning och erfarenhet
The candidate must hold a PhD or equivalent in Physics, Chemistry, or another field relevant to the beamline. Experience in development, implementation, commissioning and operation of experimental stations at soft X-ray beamlines within areas relevant for the SoftiMAX beamline, and in particular for the CXI branch, is an important merit. This includes demonstrated experience in several of the following areas:

• Development/use of (soft) X-ray coherent imaging methods and instrumentation at synchrotron sources.
• Development/use of relevant sample mounts and environments; X-ray optics, and/or detectors.
• Development/use of other, relevant (soft) X-ray techniques at synchrotrons, such as fluorescence, scattering, and diffraction
• Development/use of relevant control and data analysis software.
• Managing instrumentation projects and reaching highest possible level of performance.
• Supporting and interacting with diverse external users of X-ray beamlines.
• Defining and exploring new research directions, especially within the coherent x-ray field.

The work requires very good communication and interpersonal skills. Other qualifications that are important are independence and an ability to take initiative. A solid command of English, both oral and written is required.
