We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist to support the development of innovative scientific imaging products and analytical workflows at Cytiva. The successful candidate will contribute to the design and user validation of new products, with a strong focus on fluorescence-based applications and imaging technologies. This role requires close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders across international organizations.
The Scientist reports to the Senior Manager, Protein Research Systems, part of the wider Protein Research R&D department, and will be an onsite role based in Uppsala, Sweden.
What you'll do:
Lead and support the development of new imaging-based products and applications from concept through verification and user validation.
Design, execute, and analyse experiments, for example involving fluorescent dyes, chemiluminescence, and phosphor imaging.
Develop and optimize workflows related to electrophoresis, nucleic acid and protein analysis, and image-based quantification.
Evaluate imaging performance, sensitivity, reproducibility, and usability of new systems and applications.
Contribute to technical documentation, protocols, design reviews, and regulatory documentation as required.
Support customer and user studies to ensure products address real-world user needs, for example by leading beta-user testing.
The essential requirements of the job include:
Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Imaging Science, or a related scientific discipline.
Strong hands-on experience with fluorescence-based detection methods and fluorophores.
Experience in applications such as Western blotting, nucleic acid gel electrophoresis, fluorescence imaging, chemiluminescence detection, phosphor imaging, multiplex multi-well plate analysis, or related workflows.
Experience with quantitative image analysis, data interpretation, and statistical evaluation of imaging performance.
Demonstrated ability to independently plan and execute complex experimental studies with limited supervision.
Experience developing, testing, and validating scientific instruments, assays, or research products.
Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively in English-speaking, cross-functional, and international teams.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
Knowledge of optical imaging systems, detector technologies (CCD, CMOS, sCMOS, PMT, SPAD, or related technologies), illumination systems, and image quality metrics is advantageous.
Experience with laboratory imaging systems such as gel documentation systems, fluorescence imagers, chemiluminescence imagers, phosphor imagers, microscopy systems, or multimode imaging platforms.
Familiarity with scientific image file formats and metadata standards (e.g., TIFF, JPEG, and other proprietary instrument formats).
Experience with user-cantered product development and usability testing.
Understanding of regulated development environments, quality systems, or design control processes.
Experience working with software-controlled instrumentation and digital image workflows.
We're looking for someone with a collaborative mindset who enjoys working across disciplines, functions and geographies. You are curious and innovative, with a genuine passion for scientific problem-solving and finding practical solutions to complex challenges. You bring a structured and detail-oriented approach to your work while remaining pragmatic and adaptable. With strong interpersonal and communication skills, you build productive relationships easily and thrive in a dynamic environment where you can manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Join our winning team today. Together, we'll accelerate the real-life impact of tomorrow's science and technology. We partner with customers across the globe to help them solve their most complex challenges, architecting solutions that bring the power of science to life.
