The consultant assignment will start in February and proceed until 2018-12-31.

The Arena:
Pharmaceutical Science is a global department within our Innovative Medicines and Early Development (IMED) Biotech unit. Our vision is to deliver the therapies of the future through scientific leadership in drug delivery. Our portfolio of projects include traditional small molecules to nucleotide based therapies and nanomedicines across AstraZeneca 's therapy areas.
Within Early Product Development in Gothenburg, a sub-division of Pharmaceutical Sciences, we focus on delivering inhalation, oral and parenteral products for our drug projects. We have the responsibility to progress the candidate compounds from early preclinical phase up to Proof of Concept in humans.
Due to maternity leave, we are now looking for a consultant for the role as Senior Scientist Biopharmaceutics, to join our team. You will be part of a multi skilled team focusing on developing inhaled products in both preclinical phase and early clinical phase.
Tasks and responsibilities/The role:
In the role as a Biopharmaceutical Scientist you will be working closely together with biopharmaceutical experts within the area where you will obtain and provide scientific knowledge to drug projects with the overall aim to assess drug substance and formulation properties and suitability for further development.
You will be part of a diverse and multi competent team responsible for project and scientific deliveries. You will be able to develop your knowledge within the inhaled drug delivery area by having discussions around dissolution, lung retention formulations, devices, lung deposition and absorption. In this role you will be using physiologically based biopharmaceutical prediction tools, both in the preclinical and the clinical setting.
Main Duties:
* Work as a member of cross-functional project teams, with a large degree of independence representing own group and area of expertise.
* Plan and conduct lab-based experimental work in accordance with project timelines.
* Apply science and technical knowledge to drug projects and the evaluation of new technologies/processes.
* Collaborate with specialist scientific and /or technology networks.
* Collaborate closely within the team as well as other internal functions to build our capabilities in drug delivery.
Essential Requirements
* Degree, preferable M.Sc. or PhD in a discipline relevant to pharmaceutical sciences or equivalent qualifications.
* Genuine interest in experimental work and hands-on problem solving.
* Delivery focused and ability to utilize scientific and innovative thinking.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Previous work experience of Biopharmaceutical evaluations (e.g. dissolution, absorption and PBPK modelling) and /or inhaled drug development will be an advantage.
