We are now looking for a Scientist within Pathology Sciences for a 12 month assignment at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg.

The DSM Pathology department has a wide-ranging remit, delivering understanding of efficacy and safety of drugs in early discovery phases, characterising novel disease models more relevant to the clinic and advancing technology capabilities in the field of pathology to deliver greater expertise to the organisation.

The role

As a Laboratory Scientist in Pathology you will play a supporting role in delivering high quality histopathology employing tissue processing, sectioning and slide preparation to support the team. You will be responsible for the delivery of the histology sections of early investigative in vivo safety studies, involving working with Senior Scientists, group head, pathologists and study directors to deliver data to required timelines. In addition to this there is the opportunity to learn about tissue section-based gene and protein expression methods. Other lab support relating to scanning of slides to support image analysis and AI activities and archiving will be key in supporting the team to meet objectives. The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-functional team within a shared laboratory.

Major responsibilities

* Responsible for preparing laboratory for specific histology activities, liaising with lab support about consumable orders, deliveries and waste streams
* Contributes to the plans and designs of histological studies and provides general scientific advice on specific topics to the team
* Provides additional lab support to assist with core activities of the group (digital slide scanning, archiving, wet tissue disposal, etc.)
* Manages own work to ensure that agreed targets are met in a timely manner and to agreed quality standards, communicating progress appropriately
* Develops and introduces new experimental techniques and equipment with supervisor 's guidance
* Understands how own team interacts with others within the function and how they support the objectives of the business
* Contributes to the objectives of the group through active participation in group meetings
* Ability to work collaboratively with IMED scientists from CVRM and RIA
* Proactively responds to others ' requirements, seeking information from other areas of the business as required
* Ensures that work is performed in accordance with appropriate Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), quality and compliance standards, e.g. Good Laboratory Science (GLS)

Essential Requirements:

* Graduate or experienced non-graduate
* Understanding of compliance systems
* Good communication skills
* Good basic knowledge of histological techniques
* Able to work within a team environment - support for colleagues

Desirable:

* Experience in the pharmaceutical industry or hospital histology/molecular pathology laboratory
* Knowledge of image analysis, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization and/or other techniques allied to the function of the wider laboratory
* Ability to work with pathologists and other scientists to deliver what is needed on time and to the required standards
