IFS supports developing country scientists working in their home countries with advanced research projects on the sustainable management of biological and water resources. Support is primarily in the form of research grants. IFS also provides capacity enhancing support such as travel grants to workshops and conferences, purchasing of scientific equipment, mentorship, etc. Currently, IFS supports over 1,000 scientists in 100 countries.
The IFS Secretariat, with a staff of 23, is located in pleasant and modern office space in Stockholm. We are an international staff with English and French as the official IFS languages.
The granting and supporting programme is currently organised in eight Research Areas. Primary responsibility for managing and developing the scientific content of the Research Area lies with a Programme Coordinator. The Programme Coordinators are assisted by Programme Administrators who are responsible for the administrative aspects connected to the Research Area.
IFS is now looking for a temporary Scientific Programme Coordinator for the Food Science Research Area. The position is part-time at 50% and for a two-year term.
AS A SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMME COORDINATOR, YOU...
• Have overall responsibility for the Research Area
• Co-ordinate the granting process which includes the pre-screening of applications; referral of applications to advisers for evaluation; organizing, chairing and recording Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meetings and maintenance of all related records
• Prepare relevant documentation from the SAC meetings
• Are responsible for the grantee's research grant budget
• Manage the grantee's capacity enhancing activities
• Maintain contact with the grantee throughout the research period
• Ensure that French abstracts and titles in grant applications are translated into English
• Organise and co-ordinate workshops and scientific meetings in collaboration with partner organizations
• Have responsibility for the Area budget
• Promote and disseminate information about IFS through international contacts and travel
• Develop and maintain links with relevant world-wide organizations and networks
• Maintain, recruit and promote contact with current and potential scientific advisers
• Negotiate, supervise and/or assist in special projects as needed
• Keep up-to-date and well informed within the scientific area
• Provide support to the Director and the Head of Programme i.e., presentations, gathering and analysis of data
WE EXPECT YOU TO.
• Preferably have a PhD or equivalent related to the IFS Food Science Research Area
• Have experience in working with people and institutions in developing countries
• Be fluent in English and have a good working knowledge of French; knowledge of Spanish is also useful
• Be able to travel extensively
• Have experience and / or interest in working in a changing international environment and have the ability to relate to many different cultures.
• Be well organised and able to communicate effectively and professionally
• Meet deadlines and work well in a team
