We are looking for two motivated Scientific Specialists with enthusiasm, expertise and experience in Oligonucleotides to join the Oligonucleotide Chemistry team within the Oligonucleotide Discovery Department at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg, Sweden. The department is part of the broader Discovery Sciences R&D organization.

AstraZeneca is committed to the development of next generation innovative medicines and is focused on expanding the use of oligonucleotides and molecular conjugates thereof, in the treatment of diseases across therapy areas. As an expert and member of the Oligonucleotide Medicinal Chemistry team you will have a key role to influence the strategy as well as to develop and lead the science in the field to expand the use of therapeutic oligonucleotides in drug projects within AstraZeneca.

What you will do:
This is a senior scientific role for a specialist within the field of Oligonucleotides, where you will work as an expert within oligonucleotide medicinal chemistry and contribute to shaping the future of our therapeutic oligonucleotide build, identifying opportunities to innovate in the interface between oligonucleotide chemistry and conjugation to other chemical modalities. You will be a role model and support scientists in oligonucleotide medicinal chemistry by advising and challenging them and providing expert knowledge and interpretation of complex data.

Recommend and champion new innovations that enable the Oligonucleotide Discovery department to meet its overall objectives, as well as influence across disciplines in the drug project core teams to ensure state of the art approaches in oligonucleotide medicinal chemistry are used to answer the scientific hypotheses. We also want you to demonstrate scientific leadership through high quality publications, conference presentations and by building networks with key opinion leaders and academic groups.

Essential in the role:

Furthermore, you are a scientifically critical and curious individual who has the ability to operate effectively in a multi-disciplinary research environment and take own initiatives.

We also believe you have:

* PhD in Organic Chemistry and a post-doc experience or minimum 5 years of professional experience in pharmaceutical industry or academia.
* Expert knowledge and significant experience in oligonucleotide medicinal chemistry including IP strategies.
* Great knowledge in biological processes enabling the design of effective oligonucleotide ligand conjugates.
* Substantial track record of innovation and milestone delivery in oligonucleotides drug discovery projects across phases.
