The non-profit foundation Voice of the Ocean (VOTO) aims to increase public and scientific knowledge of the health of the oceans, specifically focusing on the Baltic Sea and connected seas. At the Ocean Knowledge branch of VOTO, based in Gothenburg, we focus on supporting marine research and the research community through our infrastructure and expertise, operating marine technology and collecting scientific data with all work openly available to the wider community. Currently supporting 13 underwater gliders and four autonomous surface vessels, the Ocean Knowledge Team aims to increase the fleet size significantly, requiring both technical and scientific support, to ensure the best possible data collection.
Scientific Project Manager at Ocean Knowledge
VOTO is hiring for an organized, independent and enthusiastic scientific project manager in its Ocean Knowledge initiative based in Gothenburg, Sweden. This person must excel at communicating between various groups, identifying priorities and likely issues in newly established projects, and be comfortable at pushing projects to meet deadlines.
VOTO was established in 2019, and as such it offers opportunities for the selected candidate to help shape the operations of the project management and scientific output of the group.
A passion for advancing marine science through technology and methodology development is of benefit, as is the ability to work in a small team. A degree within the Marine Sciences and experience of project management is preferable.
Job responsibilities
Develop and manage project documentation to follow internal and supported research projects including applications, operational documents and final reports
Liaise between the scientific and operations teams, prioritizing the important information to collect the best data for the research question
Support the operations team on scientific priorities for the observatories
Coordinate Quality Control of data and data processing
Skills required
Degree (at least Masters level) in Marine Sciences (Natural Sciences and/or Environmental Sciences are also invited to apply).
Experience of project management
Preferred
Knowledge of marine sensors (e.g. ADCPs, dissolved oxygen sensors, nitrate sensors) and oceanographic fieldwork
Comfortable using software to track projects
Strong communication in English
Ability to write short scientific reports
