The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics conducts a broad spectrum of biomedical research and education within medical biochemistry and biophysics.

Presently our department consists of 11 research divisions with a total of approximately 300 employees.

We are looking for a highly motivated Research manager/Scientific coordinator for a position in Oscar Fernandez-Capetillo's group at the Division of Translational Medicine and Chemical Biology.

Description of research group
The "Cancer Therapy" group of Oscar Fernandez-Capetillo at Scilifelab will be focused on the development of new drugs and chemicals that could be of use in the treatment of cancer and other age-related diseases. The group has obtained generous funding from the Swedish government that should secure its activities in the long term. Until now, Oscar Fernandez-Capetillo has been working at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) in Madrid, and will need substantial help from a Research Manager in order to coordinate his activities at KI.

Duties
We are now seeking a Research Manager/Scientific Coordinator to join the Fernandez-Capetillo group at SciLifeLab, KI. The role is varied and includes maintaining and acquiring sufficient research funds as well as ensuring the general smooth running of the group. Specific tasks include (this is not an exhaustive list):

• Identification of funding opportunities, writing and coordination of grant applications
• Preparation of scientific reports, e.g. for funding bodies
• Personnel recruitment and staff welfare
• Liaising with relevant departmental support staff as well as internal and external collaborators
• Organisation of travel arrangements, meetings and scientific workshops
• General administrative support for PI and group members
• Budget management

Entry requirements
The successful candidate must have the following skills:

• University-level knowledge in biological life sciences or similar field
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills
• Complete fluency in both written and spoken English and Swedish (and Spanish is an advantage)
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Excellent organisational skills
• Flexible and collaborative team worker
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

It is an advantage if the candidate has previous experience of administrative work in an academic environment, knowledge of cancer biology and High-Throughput Screens, experience in patenting and/or personnel management.
