MAX IV is a national large-scale research laboratory providing scientists from Sweden and the rest of the world with instruments for research in areas such as materials science, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually. 200 people are currently employed at the MAX IV Laboratory.
The Communications Group at MAX IV Laboratory is responsible for supporting internal and external communications, including press and research communication, branding, projects and events as well as the MAX IV web site and social media presence. We advise on what should be communicated, where and when and to whom as well as providing training and certain operational assistance in communication issues to employees and management. The group consists of the Head of Communications and two Communications Officers.
Our web editor is leaving us to try her wings on a new job and we are now looking for her replacement.
As MAX IV Laboratory goes into operations, we need a qualified science communicator with high-level skills and experience in web editing, social media, photography and video.
What we offer
As a science communicator with digital competence, your main responsibility will be to support staff and users at MAX IV Laboratory with your knowledge and hands-on skills to produce and publish scientific results from MAX IV.
Your role is to improve our work of disseminating knowledge and research findings to the general public, decision makers and potential users that are not yet familiar with synchrotron light and its benefits.
The material produced is to be easy accessible, educating and inspiring in the form of texts, images, videos, infographics and virtual reality. Our platforms for outreach are our web site and social media as well as visits, seminars, conferences and events. As part of Lund University, we have also recently become member of The Conversation, a media outlet for research news with a multi-million audience worldwide.
Our goal is to meet the public where they are, in a way that makes them interested in learning more as well as strengthening the brand of MAX IV Laboratory.
In your role as science communicator you will take part in various projects, groups and events, both internally and with external collaborators.
What we are looking for
As a person, you are outgoing, persuasive and has attention to details. You have a certain entrepreneurial spirit and knows how to drive ideas and projects from start to finish. You are easy-going, have a winning personality and are comfortable with explaining science during study visits, both for high-school students and for kings. You have a keen interest for science in general and science communication specifically and you keep track of the latest trends and tools that will enhance our work of disseminating science to the public. Your ability to have a close cooperation with staff and users at the laboratory, to ensure highest possible efficiency and redundancy in our communication activities, is essential.
Qualifications necessary:
- University degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent experience
- University degree in Communications or equivalent education and experience
- Writing and communication skills in fluent English
- Experience working with WordPress, Adobe, and video production
- Proven experience in communicating complex science in a pedagogically way tailored to different audiences and in different channels
- Proven experience in managing projects
Meriting qualifications:
- Writing and communication skills in Swedish
- Experience working with Virtual Reality
