Job Description

The British Embassy in Stockholm is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Science and Innovation Network (SIN) Policy Advisor to cover a paternity leave (approximately 6 months).

The successful candidate will contribute to UK economic growth by initiating mutually beneficial science and innovation collaboration between the UK and Sweden. Building and developing bilateral relationships between Swedish and UK Ministries, academic institutions and organisations with an interest in science and innovation, the jobholder will also lead on issues relating to energy research, technology and innovation for the Nordic region and provide support to the Science and Innovation Nordic team. In more detail, main responsibilities will include:

Multilateral

• Develop, deliver and contribute to a programme of projects, visits, events and other activities aimed at facilitating collaboration in energy and low carbon innovation between the UK and the Nordic region. Engaging country officers as necessary to aid delivery.

Bilateral

• Monitor and respond to developments in science and innovation policies and programmes in Sweden. Provide timely and concise reports on key developments to UK government departments and other stakeholders;
• Support Ministerial and senior official visits to Sweden relating to bilateral science and innovation issues;
• Support regional thematic leads on the development and delivery of projects involving Sweden.

Influence

• Develop a wide range of contacts in government, business, universities and public research organisations in the UK and Sweden to support the Science and Innovation Nordic Network's overarching objectives.
Corporate Responsibility
• Support Regional Manager and wider team managing SIN projects / programmes to ensure compliance, delivery and timely reporting;
• Support the wider work in the Embassy including providing surge capacity and engaging in corporate activities.

Essential qualifications and experience

• Fluency in English and Swedish (both oral and written);
• University degree or 3 years of relevant work experience in Energy or applicable subject;
• A self-starter, with the ability to organise self and work effectively;
• Ability to work effectively and supportively on shared objectives with colleagues;
• Networking skills;
• Understand and focus on customer needs.
Desirable qualifications and experience
• Strong intercultural skills;
• Good IT skills - Microsoft Office Suite;
• Flexibility to travel domestically and internationally.
