The Role

The position shall manage the Safety Management System and shall ensure prerequisites to achieve safety objectives to control the operational, airworthiness, maintenance, and security risk exposure.

The Safety Manager will act as the day-to-day focal point and in coordination with the Accountable Manager, Nominated Persons, Head of Training (ATO) and Head of Aviation Security, ensure support regarding development, implementation, administration, and maintenance of an effective Safety Management System (SMS).

The Safety Manager reports to the Accountable Manager and is a mandatory position within the AOC. Acceptance from the Swedish CAA is required.

Main Responsibilities

• Managing the safety management system
• Secure and coordinate correct and updated description of the SMS in applicable manuals.
• Provide independent support and perform analysis of safety issues.

• Monitor, analyze, and report the overall safety level in SAS Scandinavia AOC-operations.

• Coordinate safety issues within SAS Scandinavia Operations as decided by SRB.

• Monitor the implementation of actions taken to mitigate risks, as listed in the safety action plan.

• Facilitate hazard identification, risk analysis and management of change and propose mitigation strategies/corrective actions.

• Provide periodic reports on safety performance.

• Ensure that there is a proper occurrence report handling system in place, including screening, mandatory information to authorities, assessment, and follow-up.

• Publish and disseminate regular and coordinated safety related information.

• Ensure that there is a proper FDM system available for validation of FDR-data.

• Ensure that there is SMS training available and that it meets acceptable standards.

• Liaise with Civil Aviation Authorities to secure common understanding of SAS Scandinavia SMS

• Ownership of selected Management Agreements.

• Management responsibility for the Safety Office

Qualifications and experience

• 10+ years of professional experience in aviation sector

• Practical experience and expertise in the application of aviation safety standards and safe operating practices

• Comprehensive knowledge of EASA Ops and any associated requirements and procedures

• Extensive experience working with SMS

• Appropriate experience in a comparable organization

• Experience from CAMO is desirable

• Proficient in Microsoft Office products
