BACKGROUND

"ONE OF THE 100 MOST INNOVATIVE COMPANIES IN THE WORLD"

Research and Innovation are at the heart of Saint-Gobain's strategy. The Group's research focuses both on breakthrough innovations and on continuously improving its products, processes and services in a spirit of openness and attentiveness to customer needs.

The Group's ongoing initiatives in this area are paying off; in 2015, Saint-Gobain ranked among Thomson Reuters' Top 100 Global Innovator Companies for the fifth year in a row.

The cross-functional R&D programs prepare the future of the Group's business lines and their development by anticipating major changes in techniques and markets. These cross-functional programs, linked directly to the work axes of the marketing groups, allow it to organize skills common to the Group's various Activities and to improve Saint-Gobain's ability to develop key technologies.

SAINT-GOBAIN NORDIC INNOVATION

The tradition of how we build and the physical environments in which we live differs from region to region, from country to country. Because of this innovation at local level is an important area for Saint-Gobain.

Where central innovation is the foundation for the success in creating superior solutions, the local adaptations and the local inventions is key to ensuring that all our solutions are "just right" in the area where they are produced and applied. In the Nordic and Baltic region we have several local R&D centers across the region. Saint-Gobain recently started a new cross-business research center for the Nordic region. The research centers maintain and develop the highest level of skills and key technologies for all the brands in the region. The center will facilitate research into new products more closely tailored to the Nordic market requirements.

In order to further strengthen the innovation team, Saint-Gobain is now hiring a Project Manager for R&D activities of the group to provide support for boards, WRM (Wet Ready Mix) and systems in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland.
