MAX IV is a national large-scale research laboratory providing scientists from Sweden and the rest of the world with instruments for research in areas such as materials science, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually. 200 people are currently employed at the MAX IV Laboratory.
Safety & Work Environment at MAX IV Laboratory
MAX IV is a national research infrastructure hosted by Lund University.
It is organized as a faculty with it's own board. As a faculty it is responsible for the systematic work environment (SAM) for all its employees. In addition it has an important role in educating and supervising all external users and contractors in terms of safety. This work is lead by the Safety Group at MAX IV, which comprises about 10 people organized in three teams: general and fire safety, chemical and environmental safety, and radiation safety.
The group is lead by the Safety & Work Environment Manager who is the line manager for the group members and who receives her/his delegation directly from the director.
Your tasks
Lead the systematic safety and work environment at MAX IV Laboratory.
Be group manager for the safety group, this is a three year renewable assignment.
Coordinate activities related to: experimental safety (chemistry, biology, etc.), radiation safety, work environment, user safety, machine safety, fire safety, etc.
Advise management on safety issues and suggest effective strategies to keep staff, users, and equipment safe.
Push for a safety conscious culture at MAX IV and implement it.
Organize the work environment advisory committee (WEAC), an external committee appointed by the MAX IV board and advising management.
Your qualification
Degree as scientist or engineer (PhD is preferred).
Own experience with design and execution of experiments at a research infrastructure like a synchrotron, neutron facility or a laser lab.
Knowledge of safety work from both practical perspective and regulatory framework.
Experience in conducting safety work at a laboratory or formal education in safety is a merit.
Knowledge of the Swedish law concerning safety and work environment is a merit.
Proven ability to lead a group of people in a complex environment with partly conflicting expectations.
Ability to develop a strategy for safety at MAX IV which includes setting goals, assigning priorities, developing processes, implementing all of this and then continuously reviewing such a strategy to improve and adapt it.
