hela Sverige The European Spallation Source ERIC (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, is one of the largest science and technology infrastructure projects being built today. The project includes the most powerful linear proton accelerator ever built, a five-tonne, helium-cooled tungsten target wheel, 15 state-of-the-art neutron instruments, a suite of laboratories, and a supercomputing data management and software development centre. In the context of its history and future as a scientific organisation, however, it is more than the sum of its parts. It is a brand new Big Science organisation and we are building it from the ground up.
Come and build the future of Science with us!
About the role
The Installation and Rigging Group at ESS currently consists of five staff members, and is now seeking to appoint a Rigging Lead to join our close-knit team. The group is responsible for providing guidance as well as performing rigging activities such as heavy lifting, handling and crane operations. The team is also implementing general procedures and guidelines for how to work safely with rigging at ESS.
The Rigging Lead will have the following main responsibilities:
• Coordinate and plan the rigging work in the areas of lifting, assembly and disassembly of equipment on the ESS site and nearby storage areas, on a day-to-day basis as well as long-term.
• Provide guidance throughout the organisation within the subject of rigging, such as lifting methods and installation procedures.
• Support rigging technicians performing loading/unloading of materials, maintenance of and minor repairs on lifting equipment, as well as reporting faults on materials if possible and required. This means both hands-on support and general guidance.
• Manage the rigging budget and build up an inventory of tools and cranes that can be of benefit for the construction, as well as operation of the ESS facility in a long-term perspective.
• Manage the ownership of rigging materials and cranes at ESS.
• Manage the ESS lifting handbook.
This is a permanent position with a six-month probationary period. It is an on-site position in Lund, Sweden, and we need someone who can start as soon as practically possible. In the future, this role may require some on-call duties and/or shift work, which will be compensated for according to our collective agreement.
About you
To be successful in this role, we believe you have several years of solid and extensive experience from the tasks listed above. You have the knowledge to estimate, plan - and replan when needed - and perform similar work together with a team. Leadership experience is a requirement. Apart from taking the lead, you also enjoy hands-on rigging work as that will be expected.
You also need a license for forklift and overhead cranes, and a driver's license of minimum B level.
Furthermore, you have general IT and computer skills. You can communicate in English, as it is the working language of ESS, and fluency in Swedish is an advantage. It is an advantage if you have worked in an international organisation before.
As a person you enjoy communicating and collaborating with a large number of internal and external stakeholders, and providing service in an efficient way. Flexibility and patience in combination with firmness in your decisions may sometimes also be required.
Planning, organising, leading and supervising the work in a safe way, whilst following and implementing instructions and procedures, comes naturally to you.
What we offer
Aside from the chance to work at a truly unique Big Science project, you can also expect:
• An opportunity to contribute to future discoveries within neutron science.
• A stunning, brand new workplace filled with innovative minds and brilliant people from across the globe.
• A challenging, innovative and stimulating work environment.
• 25 days of annual leave, as well as more than 10 days of public holiday and company days off or days with limited working hours.
• Monthly pension contributions on top of your salary.
• Focus on work-life balance.
• Preventative healthcare benefit.
• Where applicable, relocation support and allowances may also be available.
