The Machine Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a RF Electrical Power Systems Engineer.
Description of directorate/division
The Accelerator Division is responsible for the design, construction, commissioning, and operation of the ESS accelerator. The pulsed superconducting linac, to be built in Lund, will produce a 5 MW average power proton beam, driving the world's most powerful neutron source. The RF Department is responsible for design of the RF system for the ESS accelerator. The RF system will provide over 120 MW of peak power supplied by over 200 klystrons.

Description of main responsibilities
The main responsibility will be the design, specification, procurement, and installation of the ESS klystron modulators and connection to the power grid.
The successful candidate will report to the High Power RF system Engineer in the Accelerator Division RF group.

Qualifications

• Candidates are expected to have a masters degree in electrical engineering and several years of experience of practical work with high voltage pulsed power systems.
• It is an advantage if the candidate has experience of work in an industrial environment and have good links with both industrial and academic partners with the objective to inform the ESS technical design of novel and disruptive RF technologies and research relevant to ESS accelerator base line and possible future upgrades.
• Experience of working in an international environment is essential.
• Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage.What ESS can offer

The European Spallation Source ESS AB will design, build and operate a multi-disciplinary, large-scale research infrastructure based on the world's most powerful neutron source. ESS will provide scientists with unique and powerful neutron scattering instruments for the study of a large range of materials - from polymers and pharmaceuticals to membranes and molecules. The ESS project is partnered by 17 European countries, and hosted by Sweden and Denmark. The ESS will be built in Lund, Sweden, by a collaboration of European scientists and engineers. ESS is planned to produce the first neutrons by 2019. When the facility is in full operation 2025, ESS has around 450 employees.
